Today Every State in America Has an Obesity Rate Over 20%

The least obese state in the country, Colorado, is now more obese than the most obese state in the country in 1990, Mississippi.

It's amazing how fast Americans' genetics have changed causing this weight gain. Though I'm sure the astronomical rise in thyroid disorders has something to do with it too. Not to mention all the gluten.

sad.

The Russians had a saying years ago. They said no need to fear America because we will self destruct from the inside. It looks like they may be correct. It just takes decades.

The Army released a study that said our current military is too fat to fight:

http://dailycaller.com/2015/02/17/military-recruits-too-fat/
http://www.cnn.com/2015/04/21/opinions/costello-america-fat/

I see young guys in their 20s who have huge guts. Aren't they embarrassed? I'd want to lose that gut, so I could wear a dress shirt without looking like I had a beach ball underneath. My friend has a gut the size of two beach balls, and he's in his early 30s.

Of course they're not ashamed. If you say anything about it, you're "fat shaming". The fat movement is sweeping the country, making it seem ok to be fat. When it isn't.

Nope. And we will pay the price with more doctor visits, higher rates of diabetes, and premature deaths.

When I was in South Korea I was shocked to see so many Koreans who were chunky. Not morbid, but not healthy either. I'd see young children scarfing down sweets at 9am.

Not quite America levels, but Russians are fat as fuck too! Especially the women!

http://www.euro.who.int/__data/asse...ssian-Federation-WHO-Country-Profile.pdf?ua=1

Intercountry comparable overweight and obesity estimates from 2008 (1) show
that 59.8% of the adult population (> 20 years old) in the Russian Federation
were overweight and 26.5% were obese. The prevalence of overweight was
lower among men (56.2%) than women (62.8%). The proportion of men and
women that were obese was 18.6% and 32.9%, respectively. Adulthood obesity
prevalence forecasts (2010–2030) predict that in 2020, 31% of men and 26% of
women will be obese. By 2030, the model predicts that 33% of men and 26%
of women will be obese.

On one hand, it's a good thing that we live in a post-scarcity society at least where food is concerned. Problem is we here in North America eat a shitty diet that's high in starch and empty calories. This is a society views cake with less sugar (muffins) as a health food.

Aggravating the problem is a sedentary lifestyle. That and this retarded "body acceptance" movement that wants to make fat the new ideal, or some BS.

"Fat acceptance" is a shame, and very dangerous. Especially for people who increase their risk of health related issues by being over weight.

I know what you mean, I have been to dozens of different countries. France, Germany, Ireland, bunch of middle east, Uganda, Senegal, Netherlands, Italy, Nigeria, etc. Have lived in a few of them for a good amount of time. USA is by far the fattest country I have ever been in. There are many reasons I believe this is, but that doesn't really matter. What matters is we as a whole are fat, and are paying the price for it. It will only get worse too, pretty soon you will be labeled a bigot calling out someone for being fat, even if trying to help them. You have to accept everyone no matter what these days.

I wonder when they look back years from now at the death of America they can say that this was the start of it.

If fast-food were abolished, I think this would be much less of a problem.

I scrolled through the article, and wonder if we are all using the same numbers.

Here is what I looked at for BMI range:
http://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/obesity/basics/symptoms/con-20014834

And calculated here. I am at 26.1.
https://www.nhlbi.nih.gov/health/educational/lose_wt/BMI/bmicalc.htm

And I am honestly trying to lose at least 15 pounds. Not trying super hard, but eating a lot better than I was, say, a year ago.

The one thing all the other countries I have been to had in common, was very little fast food places. Not like in American where they are on virtually every corner. I lived in Catania, which is in Sicily Italy for about 6 months. They had a Burger King and McDonalds, that was it. Tons of pizza joints though, but like real pizza and pasta. Not fast food kind. Other smaller cities around it had no fast food places.

Perhaps. Fast food sort of evolved from a treat / quick bite on the road to a regular meal. It's surprising how many people eat out on a regular basis. Most places I've worked, I seem to be one of the few who actually brown bags their lunch.

The excuse I hear a lot is that people are too busy. Well, I'm busy too but I always seem to make the time. Same with friends who have families. The reality of it is that people are just too lazy or they never learned how to cook. They'd rather just reach for what's easy.

I asked a bunch of them "Where were you during 9/11?" on 9/11. Most of them said 3rd grade. It was a depressing day. :|

I disagree. Fast food isn't necessarily bad. Taco Bell, for example, doesn't add sugar to any of their food. I eat quite a bit of Taco Bell and I'm 74", 168lbs, 12% body fat.

Admittedly people do get too much fast food, putting them in a huge caloric surplus. But they frequently do even worse at home, purchasing bags of potato chips, frozen pre-fried chicken wings, candy, poptarts, yogurts full of sugar, etc.

We need mandatory nutrition education in schools, with food journals and all. And the return of real physical education\exercise.

The fat acceptance movement is despicable. They actively discourage young people from losing weight, pushing them towards a lifetime of suffering and an early grave. These are people so incapable of changing themselves due to a lack of willpower and mental fortitude that they think it's easier to change the world around them. Disgusting.
