Wow can't believe how well that door held up, poor sky.
I wouldn't rule out an mri for the gf though, better be safe than sorry.

Guess I missed the thread earlier. Glad you guys are ok.

I know you like to tune and stuff so a V might be a fun car for you.

Wow, scary. I'm also surprised at how well the door held up.

So were you tempted to get out and beat the fuck out of the other driver? Jesus. I wonder how often that happens? lol

It was a weird combination of fury and understanding. I mean, shit happens. As long as everyone walks away from the wreck ok, anything else can be replaced.

I keep looking at the pictures and just feeling blown away at those doors holding up the way they did. The engineers did a fucking good job keeping the passenger compartment protected. Wish I could buy one a beer.

How much personal injury stuff your family into to have a family lawyer for it?

Freaking odd, unless you are counting 'family lawyer' as just someone one of your family talked too.

Why the lawsuit anyway? Your insurance company will have their own attorney handle things...unless you are feeling you are at fault and want to do damage control early.

In general in order to start a suit, you should wait for whatever settlement is offered. If it's already the limits of the policy then if you sue you have to give that portion up and go after their assets...most places you can't 'double dip' unless the policy is deemed underinsured.

My Dad's business is related to health and the company lawyer is around specifically to deal with insurance and claims against the company. I called him and briefed him a bit yesterday in case anything comes of it. As I said, at the moment insurance is doing their job so I'm not concerned.

Wow, that is a strong door.

One of my biggest selling points as a salesperson was always the improved safety features that cars get every year. Even something like a sky that is sold more by styling/cool factor than by safety, it never hurts to be reminded that most newer cars are a LOT safer than 5-10 year old stuff. If his g/f was in the passenger seat, an older model convertible might not have been able to protect her from that hit. Honestly, that was one of the biggest reasons that I started leasing cars for my wife after we started having kids, because it forced us to upgrade every 3-5 years.

@OP: glad you're ok. Dallas can be a tough place to drive...

After good testing and such, I have/had a minor concussion and my girlfriend was just bruised up. We were both pretty sore up until today and I had a few moments of pretty severe confusion on Sunday and Monday. Definitely wrecked an economics test which has been excused after the diagnosis.

The body shop called me and told me the car is most likely going to be totaled but they have to tear it apart a little and see the frame first.

The docs on the scene did concussion tests and such. Said that she was fine and for both of us to give it a day or two unless anything hurt too bad. I'm more and more sure I fractured a rib on one of the second impacts (I've done that before, know what it feels like) but they can't do anything for a fractured rib other than wrap it and give me pills anyways.

Still good to get it documented, even if they can't do anything for it.

I was in the middle lane, pushed through the left lane, over the curb and onto the sidwalk where I was stopped by the light pole firehydrant combo.

Ouch, you got pushed some distance!

That's probably why the airbags didn't deploy though - rather slow deceleration of the T-boning vehicle.

First, see your doctor if you still feel any pain.
Two, lawyer up buddy.
Third, that car is totalled, start to look for an upgrade.

That's the number one "pro" that comes up every time I think about keeping my 1996 Avalon. The "cons" list is too numerous to mention...

oh shitty dude.
I like Sky's. Sad to see one in such a state.
Good to know you made it out ok - but like the others said, any sign of pain go see a doc cuz it can be serious.

Totalled would be my guess too. Especially on convertibles.

The important thing is the people inside are ok. Make sure that is the case.

Cars are replaceable.

Very happy to hear no one was seriously injured. Best wishes on you and your GF's recovery. Hopefully everything is OK in a couple days as the soreness and bruises go away. Good luck with finding new wheels! V is always a great option!

Cars can always be replaced, no matter how nice they are. Glad no one got really hurt...
