You're supposed to go up to coworkers and say "Hey, your face is dirty." And when they try to explain that it's for Ash Wednesday, you try to wipe it off for them. It makes for great office fun.

the first time i saw that, i thought the exact same thing, i was gonna tell them that they had a lil schmutz on their forehead....and then i saw EVERYONE had it...then i started freaking out...

Yea i was at Target checkin out some FINE A$$ momma and she turned half towards me and smiled then she looked right at me, ashes and all and scared the livin shlt outta me. I was like wtf you banged into something that wasnt me!

What I was trying to point out is that pretty much NO ONE knows what the hell the whole ritual is for. They just do it. Kinda scary.

My first car accident was on Ash Wednesday. I was driving to school when a car came roaring out of the school parking lot and I rammed the front right side of their land yacht with my GMC Jimmy. The ladies got out of the car and all had the ash marks on their forehead. I wasn't thinking what day it was and said to my friends, "Holy sh!t! What did I do to them!?"

That was interesting. I've never seen anyone bear said mark, but now if I do I will understand the significance instead of being moved to laughter.
