JumpOnDeals: Congrats man! You win the "Most Costly Hot Deal" award.

It took me all of 30 seconds to consider, then went right to Submit Order. $1160 for 20" LCD goodness. I'm stoked. The discounts were easy to follow and worked great.

Dell 2000FP, part number 320-4105
Checkout coupon code for $100 off, today only 6/10
The 20% off and 1/2 shipping were automatic. (2Day was almost the same as ground.)

I don't even want to know how much I've spent saving money on AT Hot Deals this year, but this certainly left a mark.

Thanks man!

I ordered the 1900FP, I hope I'm not disappointed this is a pretty penny for a monitor when I could pick one up for $150 down at best buy, even if it isn't a 19" LCD

This is NOT a thread crap! I just wanted to know, since I know little of LCD technology, if the deal at Justdeals.com is better.
Link *Edit: May be a Sceptre. This has identical stats & same price. If so, are Sceptre LCDs any good?
Most of their stuff is refurbished but this is brand new & under full mfgr warranty. Only question is, what mfgr?
The stats on this one (i.e. 15ms response, 500:1 contrast ratio) look pretty good but the resolution seems kinda low for a 19 inch.
What is everybody's input on this?
As for the retailer's below average resellerratings, I ordered the high-end Logitech cordless kb & mouse set & other than it taking a while it is very nice. Shipping is high for small ticket items but for something like this monitor it seems very good ($8.95 + $2.95 per item).
LMK, please.

A few years from now? By that time, we'll be using paper thin bendable LCD's or those that are printed off an inkjet printer! Of course, it will go well with my AMD Septilltrilon 15 terahertz computer.

Cha-

I looked at the spectre for some time. It looks pretty good, but I dont know the brand well and planar has a 19" with same specs (500:1 contrast, 25ms responce, etc.) The planar has the best warrenty I have seen too (2 day replacment, only 5 bad pixles and you get a new monitor).

I have a Planar CT1904N 19" LCD which has a native resolution of 1280x1024. IMHO, it's a perfect balance. Every game I play runs great at 1280x1024, but some have slow performance at 1600x1200 (Radeon 8500). If Dell has 19" Planar, I would highly recommend them! Mine has a 500:1 contrast radio, 25ms response time, S-video input, USB hub, etc.

I almost went for the one with svid input, but it was like $200 more. Not worth it in my opinion, since I dont have a use for it, I have a nice tv, so I am set. The non svid one( model number ends with a Z, svid model ends with an N) has an rca input. Not as good quality as svid, but if you just want to hook a vcr to it and watch tv, its plenty.

BTW...planar includes analog AND digital vid cables. Some companies are cheapasses and give you one or the other, even the big buck monitors like sony.

I got the N model cheaper than the Z Yeah, and it does have both inputs and both cables. I had a Sony SDM-S81B before this that I returned because of a defect. The Planar is so much better!

My Dell FP2000 arrived. This is one huge piece of glass! I've looked hard, and so far I count ZERO stuck/dead pixels. I'm impressed.

I hooked it up to my PNY Verto GeForce3 64MB card (from a previous AT hotdeal), using the DVI-D cable that came with the monitor. The monitor is correctly recognized by the NVidia Detonator as "Dell 2000FP (Digital)" and does the right thing at 1600x1200.

However, the DVI-D picture looks like crap. It has snow, sparkle, and jitter all over! Solid colors aren't as bad as continuous-tone photos, graphics, whatever. It's nearly useless for text. Each row of pixels is randomly shifted to the left or right and jittering around.

So I hooked up the VGA DSUB connector instead, and the picture is rock-solid and correct. So analog works fine. Unfortunately, it has that characteristic Digital->Analog->Digital look to it, so all the edges are soft and it's just not as sharp or vivid.

As a tease, some parts near the top of the DVI-D image are correct, and it looks awesome.. every pixel is crisp, and black/white edges are perfectly sharp.. no analog smear. I want my whole screen to be this way.

So.. has anyone else hooked up their FP2000 using DVI-D? What card are you using? Like it?

Got mine Friday.... I couldn't be more impressed! This thing rocks! I have it hooked up with the DVI-i to my Radeon 8500 64Mb 275/275. The quality is superb and gaming is excellent. I haven't spent a huge amount of time playing games (too busy this weekend) but the short time I was I didn't notice any ghosting or other artifacts. Here are some photos of my background (IC 4406 Retina nebula http://oposite.stsci.edu/pubinfo/pr/2002/14/pr-photos.html ) and a shot of Ghost Recon.

Dell shipped my 2000FP the day after I ordered it, but they never emailed me a single thing. No confirmation, no invoice, no tracking. I had to call their sales number to get an Airborne Express tracking number. So aside from the lack of communication, I have no complaint with Dell. Awesome deal.

Now if I could just this killer DVI-D input to work with the GeForce3...

AmishPCFreak -- thanks for the Retina link.. that's a killer background for LCD. Shows off the deep solid black.

Imagine that, a big monitor in a big box.

AmishPcFreak, I'd be interested in your review of first person shooters when using this monitor, particularly in fast moving horizontal movement. I have serious doubts about it being able to handle that..

Damn! DVI at 1600x1200 is a thing of beauty.

I replaced my PNY GeForce3 with a PNY GeForce4 4200 (Frys: $199, $20 MIR), and the DVI-D connection now works flawlessly. There was a loud thud the first time I powered it on and switched to 1600x1200.

That was the sound of WOOD hitting the underside of my desk!

I've never seen an image like this.. every pixel sharp as a tack, from corner to corner.

The monitor even does digital scaling, which is very rare for DVI-D. It will scale up an 800x600 or 1024x768 image to fill the glass nicely, without added rescaling load on the video card. I haven't tried the S-Video or Composite inputs yet.

Jedi II on the GeForce4 is now a theatrical experience. GTA3 is, well, just that much more violent.

The world is a better place.

Anyone want to buy a slightly-used PNY GeForce3?

GTA3 is a thing of beauty!! Working my way to 100 Taxi missions to get the "super taxi".

Anyways....Mmm, 19" monitor!!! I'm going to hold off until the LCDs with a mid-teens response time come out (supposedly in July) should be able to pick-up a 25ms 17"/19" on the cheap...relatively!! hoot hoot!!!

I have a VP201MB by Viewsonic, this thing is beautiful and comparable to the DELL 2000FP, but it doesnt have all the inputs the Dell has. Ive never seen ghosting, or at least im not sure, might have seen some in GTA3 unless the intro has fade effects.

It's really hard to find published specs or reviews on DVI performance, probably because most people just use it as a second (analog) VGA output with a DSUB adapter.

The GeForce4 4200 is doing a flawless 1600x1200 DVI-D. The NVidia drivers recognize the monitor and do the right thing. It's fantastic.

I know that the GeForce3 did 1600x1200, but it had a lot of snow and speckle. It cleared up if I turned on interlacing, or chopped the bit clock down under 90 MHz. Lower resolutions were no better. Flaw? Incompatibility? Who knows.

I couldn't get any image at all out of the GeForce 2 MX400 with DVI-D output (eVGA brand). I didn't try very hard. The NVidia driver options were different. It would detect the monitor, but put up no image.
Anyone else running DVI at 1600x1200? I could never go back.
