Slacktron, are you getting DVI 1600x1200 in games as well? Highest I get in games is 1280x1024 I'm running a GF3 with my dual 2000FPs and sometimes get that sparkle effect with certain images. Soon going to upgrade to a Ti4600 though, if that doesn't fix it I'll talk to the displays engineers personally and let them know of the problem (one of them sits right across from me @ work).

Mani: I haven't tried playing games at 1600x1200.. most get pretty slow at even 1280x1024 32bit. I don't see why it wouldn't work if the game lets you pick that setting. Hang on..

Yep, GTA3 runs fine at 1600x1200 32bit! Sick, I tell you. It lags a little, but it's smoother than I would have guessed.

Did you say DUAL 2000FPs?! Just when I think I got the killa setup, someone always has to smack me down.

I'd be very curious to find out what you can learn about the sparkle. It was really bad on my GeForce3, and totally gone on the 4200. And resolution didn't have anything to do with it.

Cool...I'm going to try it again with the GF4, maybe the games just didn't ultilize 1600x1200. I'll check and see what the displays guys say about the sparkle thing though.

Yeah, I managed to get a two for 799 each, working at Dell has its benefits.

sony145: That doesn't sound right. There was no mention of "Refurb" on the Dell page when I ordered, and no sticker on mine. It was new.
I'd call Dell and find out wtf is up with that. They can't ship refurb unless you order that way.

Mine is April 2002, Made in Taiwan.

That said, you might want to power it up and check for dead/stuck pixels. If it has few or none, maybe you want to keep it rather than risking a trade for a worse one. I'd still call Dell and see if they can comp you for the refurb, though. That's not right.

The 20" Dell is made by Acer/BenQ. Anyone compared this to the SGI 1600SW and is it worth upgrading from the SGI? Thanks.

It's possible to revive dead pixels. Gently, but firmly, use a Q-Tip or round pen cap to rub over the area containing the dead pixel. If you are lucky, it might "wake up."

Yes I'm serious. I don't have this LCD, but I have a 15" LCD and it came with six black spots (dead pixels) on it. I rubbed over the areas of dead pixels and they turned on. It's been perfect for over a year now.

Use this information at your discretion. If pixels don't turn on after a little nudging then forget it. Return and get a new one.

Interesting. I can understand the Q-tip might work but wouldn't the pen cap cause scratches? My SGI just got a second bad pixel after 1.5 years...
