Be careful here people! I ordered a 21" LCD from dell a few months back when they had a great offer. In short, it sucked. I have seen much better lcds much cheaper from other vendors. The refresh rate was so poor I actually saw waves rolling across my screen. Dell tech support doesn't support dell-branded LCDs either. I spend HOURS on the phone trying to find someone who knew anything about the monirtor. In the end, I sent it back and for much less got a nice pivot lcd monitor. PC mag actually did some LCD ratings a while back ... check them out. BUT BEWARE OF DELL .

And I am an owner of a lot of other dell stuff, including a $2600 laptop. Their other stuff is pretty good, their LCDs can suck.

At this forum they seem to be in love with the Dell LCDs. Of all the posts I read in the huge thread I don't think I've come accross one complaint about the Dell LCDs.

I'm checking right now if I can scrape together the funds for the 19" LCD from Dell.

deadmeat, I'm really wondering where the hell you're coming from here.

For one, Dell doesn't and never has offered a 21" LCD. Two, just about all LCDs have a fixed refresh rate of 60Hz, but it doesn't make any difference because it has a static image (as opposed to a constantly refreshed one like CRTs), and as such does not hurt your eyes or have visual artifacting.

I own two Dell 20" displays - they are not only GORGEOUS (especially at 1600x1200, DVI) but have great response time- and as such kick ass for gaming. They have great contrast ratio, and 4 inputs all of which can be connected at the same time. These things also have PiP, and since they have 4 inputs including S-Video and composite you have have a television signal coming in and watch it in PiP.

They've even survived two drops without a hitch and I don't have a single dead pixel on either. I can highly recommend them, especially considering they were 1799 just a few months ago.

Anyone own the 19" ?

I don't want to put up the extra money for 1 more inch, $1000 for a monitor is my limit.... and a tremendous stretch as it is.

I'm worried about the resolution on the 19" though, 1280 x 1024 seems like a low resolution for a 19" viewable screen. I haven't seen anything like that first hand though and would appreciate opinions. Are things going to be too large at that resolution on a screen of that size?

That's still a lot of $$ for a monitor (they sure look neat though). I'm gonna stay with CRTs until LCDs get a lot cheaper as they should in a few years.

A few years!?!

Is it really worth waiting? That is unless you use awesome CRTs...

LCDs have actually on the whole gone UP this year so far. Holding off till they come down significantly in price could be a long wait.

Quoted from CNet:

The dot pitch is the distance between the centers of any two triads, or what we think of as dot center to dot center. Theoretically, the tighter the dots are packed together (in other words, the smaller the dot pitch), the sharper the image.... Unfortunately, dot pitch can be calculated horizontally, vertically, or diagonally; make sure to compare like measurements. Dot pitch typically ranges between .2mm and .3mm, with .22mm to .27mm the range for a decent monitor. LCDs do not use phosphors; therefore, this metric does not apply.

I'm considering the 19", but wonder about the .3mm dot pitch vs the .255mm on the 20". According to CNet, however, this metric does not apply. Is this true?

Dotpitch Schmotpitch, it's an lcd. Response time is where it's at.

Anyone know what the rise and fall time of the 2000FP is? 25ms?

Yep, 25ms.

And wuhoo, honestly I don't know the number on the brightness. It's gotta be up there though, it's one of the brightest LCDs I've seen.

you can get an expensive 19 or 20 lcd for 1 gram.
however, why not get 2 17 for the same price, dual display sure is cool.
