Weird, adding sounds "bad"
like they are going to mark up the price of my ticket, hah!

when they "add" $xx to your bid, they dont pay for it if you win, you do... all those sprint or credit cards that will "add$50" to your bid just end up costing you that extra $50 anyway AND you have to deal with your name on some new telemarketing lists as well as whatever else you got duped into signing up for....

might as well add the $15 to your bid yourself.... you're going to have to pay for it anyway.

Their web site says:

Here's how this special bonus offer works: We'll add $15 per ticket to your airline ticket request made with us before midnight PST, November 28, 2001. So, if you offer $200 we will search for tickets worth up to $215. That's $15 in FREE money per ticket that can help you get to anywhere you want to go.

Sounds like you pay $200 for a $215 ticket, so you do save $15. The wording is less than crystal clear, though.

I believe Priceline is a scam. I've tried dozens of times over the years to get airline tickets from them and although I usually place my bid way above the full retail price, Priceline won't broker the ticket. For example, say American Airlines has an LA to Seattle flight for $150 on their website - I'll go to Priceline and bid $200 and get rejected every time. I've never bid more than double the full retail value of a ticket, but I've come close. I guess it's that eBay mentality that convinces people that they must be getting a bargain on Priceline despite the outrageous markup. A broker certainly has the right to set whatever profit margins they like but Priceline falsely claims to "search" for "bargain" flights for an "hour" when in reality they just mark up the regular fare like any other broker and the one hour waiting period is simply to encourage high initial bids. Businesses like this are a major black eye to the internet commerce industry and I sincerely hope that the corruption will be exposed soon so that Priceline can be brought down and replaced by a legitimate company.

I would never use priceline- if you have a problem while in transit you are not even on the airline's list of people to help, let alone at the bottom. A good shopper can get incredible deals without using priceline. Plus you don't get the miles do you? Right now, I think everyone is offering 2x or 3x miles. I recently bought a ticket to LA for $118 r/t from an airline, with miles and benefits if a flight gets delayed or whatver.

Uh, why on earth would you bid more than you can buy the ticket for elsewhere?

worms: Your post makes no sense. Why would you place a bid for more than the ticket at the airlines??

Also, I just rented a car through Priceline.com today for Xmas week. I am getting a Full-sized car for $17 per day from MCI. Every other website, including Hotwire, Orbitz, car rental places, wanted at least $37 a day.

I rent cars from Priceline.com all the time - never have had a problem...

I bid more than retail because my bid includes the "special bonus" money they throw in. In the early days they would sometimes add as much as $50 to your bid.

I do alot of flying. And anyone who flys alot, knows, PriceLine.com is a SCAM. Its best to go to a search like orbits, or the one on yahoo, find the best price, and what airline is giving that price. Then go and get the ticket from the airline itself. If you get a ticket from priceline you have almost zero protection. Get it from the airline and if problems come up, like you want your money back, they will do you right. Plus priceline after there airport tax not showing up on the bill and other charges etc. In the end Priceline.com has you paying about 20% more than what you should have. And thats if you progressively try getting the best price from the site, which takes hours and you still get scamed. The faster priceline.com goes out of business the better(thats if you call it a business).

'we will SEARCH for tickets worth up to $215'
is a far cry from
'we will PAY for $15 on top of your bid'

it's happened to me.... you enter your credit card, and have them 'search' for ticket prices higher than your bid
(ticket prices = your bid + special offers)
but since you've already agreed to pay for whatever price ticket they find for you, you end up paying more than you wanted to.

give it a shot. it sucks. you think you bid $200, but your credit card bill says $215.
