This is really the story of every piece of technology. Manager goes to trade show or reads trade journal, drinks Kool Aid, comes back and says I want one of those, tasks IT monkey to do it then complains when it isn't done in a day and costs too much.

Yep... my former manager! In fact, his entire understanding of VMWare was something that he got from a trade journal.

But, hey... I was able to use it to my advantage and order about $100,000 worth of servers just because he liked the idea!

Not writing the software, deploying vmware. That is not the point, the technology in question is not the focus.
