He was on Fox News Sunday as well. He really had no decent answer for anything.

Russert was really letting his bias show today. Whether or not the administration is at fault he was really unprofessional to melt down like that.

Me too. It was surpising to see some genuine emotion. Moreover, he had every right to be angry as hell. FEMA needs to be disbanded.

Can someone tell me why Bush should stand behind the FEMA head like he is now?

Why does that not surprise me? Hannity has to be the biggest lickspittle of all the Bush handmaidens.

Well, it's partially our fault as a people. These guys never admit any mistakes because we act like whiny babies when they do. Having said this, it plays right into the fantasies of some people when they're seen as infallible. I think Bush embodies this mindset better than most.

He was yelling at Chernoff, this isn't reflected in the transcript. He also didn't suggest any blame lies with state and local officials in Louisiana, which it does.

Probably because Chernoff wasn't answering questions and he was getting annoyed by it. Chernoff was doing the same BS on FNS and he was annoying people there quite a bit as well; with his little nonsense about "we didn't know." Yeah, yet all you had to do is turn on any news station and you knew before him, apparently.

Umm, it's Chertoff.

He shouldn't keep claiming "they didn't know" when it's clearly a lie. I knew. What wouldn't he know. It's beyond absurd.

Apparently he gets the information for FEMA from the newspaper?
Tim Russert got all feisty and paper-showing to Chertoff, demanding to know why FEMA wasn't more prepared. Chertoff responded by saying that the levee break took them by "surprise," and noted that "Tuesday morning, I opened newspapers and saw headlines that said 'New Orleans dodged the bullet.'" Ah, well, so DHS gets its information from the papers. Good thing they're not looking for WMDs or terrorists or anything.

Davide Brooks, a huge Bush supporter, is SLLLLLLAMMING him for his pitiful reponse to Katrina:
So you had a surge of strength; people felt good about the country even though we?d been hit on 9/11. Now we?ve been hit again in a different way (and) people feel lousy. People feel ashamed. And in part that it because of the public presentation. In part that is because of the failure of Bush to understand immediately the shame people felt.

Sitting up there on the airplane and looking out the window? That was terrible!

And the three days of doing nothing, really, on Bush was terrible.

Even today, I found myself -- and as you know, I support his policies quite often ? (but I) look at him today, and earlier in the program...this is how Mark Shields must feel looking at them. I?m angry at the guy, and maybe it?ll pass for me, but a lot of people, and a lot of Republicans, uh, are furious right now.
http://www.crooksandliars.com/

So,listen up, a lot of Republicans are angry at Bush. You can be too. They've given you permission.

Ooooh this guy has some choice words for Bush too

You're stupid. If it was ENTIRELY the administration's fault he shouldn't break from his duty as an unbiased newsman. If you think the state and local gov't doesn't deserve some of the blame you are braindead. :disgust:

russert and all the monday morning quarterbacks may have to eat crow

according to recent stories, the La governor would not let the feds take control of the situation until wednesday and refused most of the aid making it illegal for DHS to provide a lot of the aid

Also, you guys can listen to the podcast instead of reading the commentary . Alot more emotional. This is the first time I've seen Russert be this emotional, although I probably only watch MTP 2 times a month.

Russert didn't meltdown. It is his show and the interviewee, Chertoff had decided to evade the questions Russert was asking. Russert was aggresive yes. He resorts to that when the question begged is dodged.

I always try to catch MTP. It's going to reair Monday morning at either 2:00 or 3:00 AM.

I remember Condi Rice's first ocnfrontation with Russert. She was scared to death to the point of near meltdow and Russert was treating her with velviet gloves.

Speaking of the Secretary of State, United States, what the heck was doing grabbing photo op today loading hurricane suppliis? She has a real job. It is interfacing with our allies and keep our enemies at bay.
