I really liked big fish on its romantic idealism

He probably only likes movies where stuff blows up good and people's heads A-SPLODE!!! Oh, and movies with sh|tty jap cars that sound like weedwhackers.

I like those, but I also loved Lost in Translation, Fog of War, Adaptation, and about a thousand others. I just felt it was not a good movie in totality. Especially given all the hype and that it was Burton. This was one of his worst efforts IMO. And for the record I hated Fast & the Furious dickwad.

I saw the movie in the theater and was a little confused until about halfway through. I watched it on DVD last weekend and now it makes sense.

It really makes you want to think about your own father differently.

I thought it was decent, but nothing all that great. It was well made, but I just didn't get into the characters all that much. The movie looks nice and was well made, but I just wasn't interested in many of the stories. The acting was good but the script and overall story could have been polished up and filled out around the edges.

In any case, I'm not much into touchy-felly movies but I generally like Burton's flicks. Like another poster, I was engrossed until the end and shed a tear when the father passed away.

When I finished watching it, I was disappointed. I didn't quite understand the reasons behind the dad's stories. Went to the IMDB and read around in the forums. Got some different views and explanations. Went back and watched it again with my wife and my opinion began to change. Unless you know why the dad is telling the stories, you are going to feel unsatisfied with the movie.

I think that in order to enjoy that DVD you have to be able to come to grips with your own mortality. We are all big fish in smallponds. Your day in the sun comes and goes. I did not expect much from this film but was overwhelmed by the end of it.
