https://www.yahoo.com/news/baby-dies-under-anesthesia-dentist-211800996.html

Daisy was sedated and the procedure was underway when Betty says the doctor suddenly appeared with startling news.

“He told me things have changed, [and it's] six cavities,” she told Inside Edition. “We're going to go ahead and do 4 crowns and 2 fillings.”

But while Daisy was under anesthesia, she went into cardiac arrest.

The autopsy said: “One can only speculate as to why any treatment was performed considering no indication of dental disease or pathology.”

Are most dentists crooked?

Why would anybody crown baby teeth. That is insane.

All I could say is that this dentist is a quack or a crook.

I don't trust dentists. Well, I don't trust anyone, but it's harder to confirm what the dentist says. I quit going to the last one cause I think he was fucking me over.

And you didn't even tip?
Is it typical to do work on baby teeth like that? I'd never heard of it.
Nope. This dentist--like most dentists--is crooked.

This is also why you don't ever let a med school dropout dentist put you under. That is not a simple procedure and it's the same as trusting a licensed commercial electrician to inspect and repair the engine on your airplane before it takes off.

So happy I found a legit and good dentist by me. Everytime I go, it's always in and out with no surprises. Standard cleaning.

Took my daughter to the same dentist for her first dental exam before kindergarten. When he finished, I asked him if she had any cavities. He said no, and even if she did have a cavity, they're only baby teeth. No big deal. Just keep doing a good job brushing.

Will keep going back to him.

Like with anything, you need to do your research to find a good one by you and not the first you see.

Feel bad for this family. Couldn't imagine this happening. Heartbreaking.

That's been a common medicare/medicaide scam for years. Take some kid on welfare, give 'em a mouthfull of silver on the taxpayer's nickel, and then the teeth fall out in a few years. No harm done, right? Right?

Blargh.

As despised as this dentist (dentists in general) is ... the curtain to the next act of this tragedy has probably already opened ... enter the blood-thirsty lawyer(s).

WTF? Why would anyone bring a 14-month old to a dentist? Both dentist and parent are to blame.

What?

What have you been smoking?

Here's a possible reason why a parent might take a child as young as that to the dentist: First-time parents, with the typical "am I doing this right" jitters, have a kid that's doing something unexpected (or perhaps more than the parents expected) and they're worried. Perhaps they already took the kid to a doctor and the doctor said "yeah, the kid is teething, they get cranky at that stage", maybe they weren't sufficiently reassured and took the kid to this completely unscrupulous dentist. Like any scammer, the dentist probably played on the typical fears in such a situation, this one could be that the parents were thinking, "christ, what have we done to our child to need that much dental work?", rather than "is it normal for a child of this age to need dental work? should we get a second opinion first?".

What are you thinking that the parents might be to blame for? Not having sufficient knowledge of the reputations of local dentists? Or insufficient knowledge of dental needs of small children? Not quite 20/20 foresight? Or do you think they purposefully looked for an unscrupulous dentist to put their child down?

The Canadian Dental Association recommends the first dental visit to be by age 1 or within 6 months after the eruption of the first tooth. I believe the recommendations in the US are similar.

http://www.cda-adc.ca/en/oral_health/cfyt/dental_care_children/first_visit.asp

However, we were told by the dentist not to even bother until age 3.

preserving baby teeth is supposedly done to facilitate proper growth and spacing for adult teeth.

The issue here is the forensic dentist determined there was no dental disease to warrant the procedure.

While I don't really see anything wrong with taking a 14 month old baby to the dentist (I haven't taken my 17 month old yet), there is a difference between taking them there for a checkup than taking them there to get 4 crowns and 2 fillings put on.

I don't smoke, but apparently you and these parents are smoking the same shit.

They don't need to be informed to know that baby teeth are not permanent, it's common sense and knowledge. Parents are to blame because they don't exercise common sense. Why put your child through a risky procedure to fix teeth that will eventually fall out?

I suppose if someone would want to bring a 14 month old for a check up...but to recommend any type of work is crazy. Unless there is some issue any kid with baby teeth shouldn't need shit done. I never brought my kids until age 4 or 5 unless they had some issues with their teeth. It's fairly easy to see if they have a cavity or gum issues in their mouth when you check/clean/brush their teeth.

Some of you guys don't make much sense.

Sure, this dentist may be a charlatan, but just because a tooth is in a toddler and will eventually fall out doesn't mean it automatically never needs treatment.

Remember, kids keep some of these teeth until as late as age 12.
