Update:
doc said he'll be fine

Just keep him in Tylenol and ibuprofen and don't worry about the seizures, some kids just have them and there isn't any damage or much else that can be done.

He's 2yr 3months had a fever today and I gave him Tylenol; a few hours later he hit 103 so I put him in a shallow bath; he went down to 101 but while in there he went into a seizure and vomited.

So I called an ambulance and now he and the wife are off to the hospital.

Has anyone else had a similar experience? Can anyone offer any other advice?

I'm here at home with the younger baby worried to death about the older one.

I hope he's ok... that's got to be scary.

Just some advice on the fever, alternate Tylenol (or generic acetaminophen) and Advil/Motrin (ibuprofen). You can give them one, then ~3 hours later the other, than alternate so forth. That way there's always a 'fresh' dose in him.

Obviously with the seizure that's a different situation... I hope he's ok.

My sister had a seizure when she was younger (probably 7 or so, I can't really remember). They were never really able to say why it happened and she's been fine since. I'm sure your baby will be fine!

Thank you very much. (and to all those also moved to pray for him) His name is Rohny.

I hope he's ok... that's got to be scary.

I will do this next time he's ill;

Thanks to those with the assuring words.

I had this happen to me a couple times when I was a baby, or so I'm told. I turned out fine. Hope everything is ok though!

Just after her 1 year birthday my daughter got her vaccinations. One of them was the combo with chickenpox and something else. A day or two later we picked her up from daycare and she was really lethargic. An hour later she was mostly unresponsive to verbal commands and could no longer physically support herself.

We packed up the car immediately. It was a 20 minute run to the hospital, calling the ambulance would have taken 40 minutes.

I was driving, my wife was in the back seat with our daughter. About 5 minutes out my wife started crying and told me to get to the hospital as fast as I could. Our daughter was seizing.

The next five minutes were a blur. I was doing like 80 in a 55 MPH zone on the interstate. I got into the ER pull up and told them we had a siezing child. We got immediately put in a triage room and they gave her Ativan. The siezures stopped and they started all of the diagnostics...blood draws, IV lines, catheter, the works. It was horrifying to see your child in that situation.

The crazy thing was that she was actually under temp...running a 95 temp...not above. Most siezures are febrile in nature. Ours wasn't.

So we went through the battery of tests the next couple of days while she was in a pediatric unit...EEG's, spinal tap, MRI, God knows how many blood draws. It was horrible for all of us.

Eventually everything checked out clean but it earned her about 6 months on Kepra (a shitty drug) and a couple follow up EEG's.

She's almost three now and one of the healthiest kids (knock on wood) her age we know. We've talked to a number of pediatric nuerologists since then and the combo vaccinations have a much higher risk of siezures in the pediatric population than the individual vaccines. We're pretty sure that it was the combo one that caused it.

Hang in there...your poor child is going to get poked and prodded A LOT. And you will grow to hate hospitals.

Best wishes for a positive outcome. I'm sure he'll be alright. Weird shit happens to kids before everything gets wired up solid. It'll just be another one of those stories you tell for decades to come, about how he scared the shit out of you :^)

Best wishes. It maybe something viral which caused the fever and the throwing up. The seizure possibly because of the high fever. Again best of luck.

Probably fever seizure. My oldest daughter got them a lot. Terrifying, isn't it? But she was fine. She's 27 now and has three kids of her own.

It's amazing how fast and how high their temperatures can go up.

My youngest, the autistic kid, had serious seizures and it's whole different situation - tests, hospitalization, meds, and so on.

Sending you good vibes.

Yes definitely febrile seizures. One of my daughters used to get them every time she had a fever. Scared the shit out of me the first time she had them. This happens when their temperature increases at an astonishing rate. The thing is they can have them while in their sleep and you would never know it. Don't worry they cause no harm whatsoever to them. Do not move or try to hold them down while having the episode. Take off their clothes and give them a cool bath if fever persists . Keep the fever in check with Children's Tylenol or Motrin. Some times a combination of both was suggested when severe. They grow out of the condition by age 5 or 6 and will not suffer any long term damage. The parents suffer worse than the children in these cases.

Very sorry to hear that. Hope everything turns out OK. I know that fever seizures are not uncommon for young kid though and usually they are not serious. Hope everything turns out good, my thoughts are with you.

we had that with our youngest at about 9 months (I think he spiked to 105 as it occurred overnight and he was in heavy PJ's and a blanket). perfectly normal 7 yr old now, actually scary smart. Well, he's batshiat crazy, but that's par for the house.

Desi, get bent. never underestimate the power of distraction to get you through a trying event

Exactly:

The doctor said that he will be fine!

Just keep him in Tylenol and ibuprofen and don't worry about the seizures, some kids just have them and there isn't any damage or much else that can be done.

it's typical for a child to go to a seizure w/ a fever at a very young age. As long the little fella is getting fluids, electrolytes and antipyretics (fever reducer meds, baby dose of course). Then the kid will be fine.

there are cases of children having seizure at a young age but later grew out of it and lived a normal life.
