eh

whyd you let it overflow? doesnt yours have a valve to cut the water off? flush handle, hold valve...turn it off if it gets too high

not that it does you much good now, but perhaps next time....

you should read this ... I always knew pouring a bucket of water from the shower would help it flush, but I didn't know why. At least this way, you can attempt flushing while being able to control the amount of water so it doesn't overflow again. If it's already at the brim, you're gonna have to stick something in there. I looked this up the last time I tried to understand a clog (some of you may remember my thread) and visualize what I'm poking around in. Good luck... I found that by increasing my water pressure (that valve wasn't opened all the way in the past), it doesn't clog as often anymore.

And BTW, I found the Home Depot's orange plunger is much better. The compression action seems to help.

You should never use something metal (coat hanger, snake, etc) in a toilet. The part of the toilet that leads down to the sewer is usually costed in a smooth porcelin finish just like the rest of the toilet. Shoving a metal item down there can ruin the finish and it will become rough and full of gouges. This will just lead to more things being able to get caught in there as time goes on. They are made smooth so that things don't have anything to snag on when you flush.

Spend the $2.19 and go buy a stupid plunger.

Here's a link for you...

shut the water valve to the toilet and use a bucket of water to flush down the offending clog. Many time this will work over a plunger. It may take a few buckets but it will get the job done.

step 1) find plastic bag leftover from a supermarket
step 2) stick hand in bag
step 3) run it under water to make sure there is no leaks
step 4) jam plastic-bag-covered-hand into toilet and push/break apart the offending stool
step 5) profit!

I knew this thread would be worth reading. Great stuff! Bunch of cheapskates, but still good info for emergency situations.

This was too funny! I wish I could get this kind of thing that happens here on video.

Edit: not the poop parts!

that won't work. Usually the bowl is filled by the water already in the holding tank. The shutoff valve will only stop water from re-filling the tank. The damage is done once the handle is pressed.
