Toledo or Manchester?

Sorry to ask what I'm guessing has been asked many times before, but I'm getting ready to head off to work, and I don't have time to search. I hope to order when I get to work.

I'm going to pick up an X2 3800+, and I read here somewhere yesterday about which is the better to get for overclocking. Only problem is, I can't remember which was recommended!! Is there one core that is better than the other?

The 3800+ is a Manchester. It does not come in a Toledo version. For that you have to bump up to the 4400+ and spend more money. AMD has put a very good memory controller in these chips, so the diffrence in performance between the two cores is not that significant. I believe it is around 2 to 7%. The 3800+ has the best potential for OCing.

the 3800+ does come in both the Manchester and Toledo flavour .. the Toledo version just has half of the level 2 cache disabled.

the retail box codes are as follows

3800+ Mancheter - ADA3800BVBOX

3800+ Toledo - ADA3800CDBOX

i think people are seeing better OC's with the toledo core version at the moment .. but dont quote me on that

As far as i know you won't find a etailer that will guarantee you will get a toledo core. Ewiz was for a short time but they aren't anymore. A lot of etailers are listing the manchester revision but when you actually get the cpu its a toledo. I know a lot of people getting thier cpu from zzf are getting toledo cores and they are one of the cheapest currently for the cpu.

I've gone through 2 Manchesters and 2 Toledos.
Both Manchester and Toledo topped around 2600mhz on air, but one of the Toledos that I currently keeping requires 1.39v to run at 2600mhz stable below 50C full load.
So, from my limited experience, Toledo overclocks better.

tell us about you experiences with the Manchester core, im interested to know ??

As soon the Toledo cores is not going to be in circulation anymore .. and when I want to purchase the 3800+ X2 whenever that is, I will most likely be a Manchester core, and I want to know that sort of overclocks one can expect.

I got a X2 3800+ toledo core, it could reach 2.6ghz after burning in for a day or two, but I need high vcore for that to happen. Currently running 2.6ghz at 1.6vcore. 50 celsius full load.

I'm confused!!
If for single core cpu e6= bad o/c
and e4= good oc, then why would 2 e6's on dc be better than the manchester version?

I think you have it backwards
The toledo is basically 2 san diego E4 cores, the manchesters are basically two venice cores , I believe they are the E6
