The NFL has suspended New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady four games for his role in deflating footballs for the AFC Championship Game, the league said in a statement Monday.

The Patriots will also lose a first-round pick in 2016 and a fourth-round pick in 2017 and have been fined $1 million.

All based on bias and innuendo.

Good thing that the burden of proof does not need to be met.

Refusal to acknowledge the NFL actions in this also
they wanted a fall guy and NE/Brady was the obvious target

Now what will Brady and the Union do?

Stay tuned for another episode next week.

It's better to beat your girlfriend than to lie about deflating balls in the NFL.

Brady gets 4 game suspension

http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/1...ed-tom-brady-new-england-patriots-deflategate

The new personal conduct policy is 6 games for domestic abuse.

And for practical purposes the "Commissioner's List" is being treated as paid suspension so Hardy is looking at about 24 games (10 game official suspension), Peterson 14, and Ray Rice essentially was blackballed from the sport even though he only got 2 games (prior to the policy change).

I knew they wouldn't receive anything more than a pat on this a**. It's more like a handshake for getting away with it than punishment.

That's a crap punishment.. the Falcons pumping in crowd noise is worse IMO but wasn't punished nearly as bad.

Sad thing is that it highlights the NFL's poor protocol used by the league and refs to regulate the footballs. And the fact that the NFL didn't care enough to have the refs take extra steps during the AFC Championship shows how little they cared. The Wells reports never spoke about how the refs should have controlled things better but they didn't even care enough to document the psi of the balls before the game.

Love how the Indy balls were under-inflated and that the Panthers/Vikings were heating balls during the middle of a game and no punishment for them.

Brady got the book tossed at him, to summarize, for lying and refusing to cooperate with the league in an issue that was deemed detrimental to the league.

If he had simply stated he likes the balls as soft as possible and to push the edge as close as possible within how he understood the rules (instead of the big pre-Superbowl sideshow, lying about knowing the equipment guy, refusing to cooperate after Kraft said they would, etc.) he probably would have received no suspension.

Heh, damn !

The Pats have a bad reputation now, of cheating. Funny how they're equating this to steroids, because I think doctoring balls is worse. Softer balls (no pun intended) are easier to grip, and its hard to force a fumble. Yeah, that's one hell of an advantage.

I think Brady was doomed when those text messages came out.

Crazy. And the Browns were sending texts tot he sidelines and didn't get punished anything. A first round draft pick and they don't even have any proof Brady did anything? Damn, seems the NFL owners are jealous of the Pats success.

There's no way I'd be handing my phone over with what he probably has of Giselle on it.

Forgot about the Browns thing.. not even a draft pick!

Wow. Worst part of the punishment imho? The Cowboys get to play the Pats w/o Brady.

The 1-1.3 PSI or whatever it was made a dramatic enough difference to be worth the risk of being caught. That's the part you're not getting. These guys have footballs in their hands every day, they test balls that are over-inflated, under-inflated and properly inflated. Tom looked at the under-inflated balls, tested the under-inflated balls and thought "boy, I'm screwed if I get caught, let's do it anyway." He most definitely did not do that on a whim and he did not do it without a damn good reason. While you, in your professional opinion (hey, what position do you play anyway?) do not think there's a dramatic difference BRADY DOES. He saw a big enough difference to make it worth cheating. It can't be explained any more simply than that.

Obviously I'm not an NFL player but NEITHER ARE YOU, did you every think he
thought" it gave him a perceived benefit?. Amazingly, after the balls were brought up to spec his performance in the second half of the Colts game GOT BETTER and in the SB he threw 4 perfectly-thrown TD passes and completed a record 37/50 passes and compiled a 101.1 QBR for the game, all with PROPERLY INFLATED balls. Now don't misunderstand this for me excusing Brady one bit, I don't, and although I'll always be grateful for his efforts to make NE a contender year in, year out, I think he's an asshole and a moron for being involved in this fiasco. Also both him and the two assistants should be given "moron of the decade" awards for using their own personal phones for the damming texts a low-end smartphone can be had for $40 and funded with pre-paid cards bought by someone not associated with anyone involved in the cheating.

while the legal experts had already said that in a civil trial the language of the report was enough to get a guilty verdict, from the analysis of the letter sent to Brady by the league it seems he was hit hard for non-compliance with the investigation above all else and the team got hit with both repeat offender and non-compliance.

I'm not sure what (if any) appeal process can go forward following the announcement of the punishment, I guess we'll learn more about that process (if applicable) in coming days.
