Tom Clancy Ghost Recon Wildlands trailer

I'm really not getting this whole third person shooter thingy. What's next, a flight simulator where you sit on the elevator? Submarine simulator where you fight the submarine whilst floating in a dingy? Driving simulator where you steer your car from the car behind you? I suspect it's a generational thing; I'm too old to appreciate watching my character do things instead of simply making my character do things and seeing them from his/her eyes. Just like I'm too old to feel the need to post pictures of my meals on social media, or text people to tell them I'm watching a movie.

Oh well. Least I'll save sixty bucks.

My best PC gaming days were with Original Ghost Recon (OGR). Desert Siege and Island Thunder expansion packs. Awesome multiplayer experience with dedicated servers. Good blend of teamwork and action for me. We had our server set up with 10 minute rounds, 3 respawns, most kills on winning team picks next map. Server was usually full of regulars, tons of fun. All that background, I love the Ghost Recon series.

Advanced Warfighter was a pretty good game, don't know why it never really caught up. AW2 was pretty garbage. Have not played anything more recent.

I always hold out hope they go back to the OGR roots. Will wait and see on this one.

Never tried the multiplayer, but I enjoyed the single player. With AW2 though, I often had to park my morons somewhere safe and clear an area, then go fetch them and move to the next area. Oh well, at least this one apparently shifts to first person when aiming - disconcerting to me, but better than having a giant red wheel sliding across the screen.

Yeah, I don't get the third person nonsense either.

I enjoyed AW2 well enough, though the level design often felt a little more confined than the first game. The friendly AI in both was indeed rather underwhelming though.

Third person is not really the problem, it's the blatant disregard for realism and what the Tom Clancy name used to really mean. I know it's nothing new, but since the last generation, TC games have gone off the deep end. I will admit to enjoying the Rainbow Six Vegas games as well as Ghost Recon Online, but I think Ubisoft is trying to capture the Just Cause crowd with this latest GR game.

I loved the original GR. I was in a few different clans on Clanladder, DBD, ESW, sVn, - those were really fun times. I wish there was still a service like the old ubi and clanladder - it was great just sitting in a chat room and just challenging other clans to ranked matches.

I loved the original GR. I was in a few different clans on Clanladder, DBD, ESW, sVn, - those were really fun times. I wish there was still a service like the old ubi and clanladder - it was great just sitting in a chat room and just challenging other clans to ranked matches.

I was in the Walking Dead Army (WDA) clan. Still am. WDA_Slayer was my name. We primarily matched on TWL and TCZ.

Lots of fun those days.

I don't like all this futuristic crap. In OGR if you got shot in the leg you had to limp around the rest of the map. If you got shot in the arm it took you forever to aim down sights and your accuracy dropped. No health regen. No grinding endlessly for unlocks and better weapons. Everyone on an even playing field day 1.

I want to Ghost Recon to go back to that formula.

Third person is the problem for me, although I too am staying as far from Just Cause as possible. I actually liked the Rainbow Six New Vegas game that I played. But if I want to watch an over-the-top action movie, I'll watch one, not pretend a video game is a movie. And if I want to make my own crappy over-the-top action movie, I'll make one. But if you want me to buy a shooter, or an RPG/shooter, then it had best have a first person option. I have zero tolerance for either controlling a camera or watching my character's ass for hours.

Of course, with the prospect of selling a million copies to the console kiddies who want to watch their character do things in third person and dress up their character to taste, they literally could not care less whether people like me buy it or not.

Exactly. The last few Ubi games I've bought, and TC Games in particular, have been problematic at best. Pretty much have zero faith in the series right now and I used to love the older TC stuff.
