Not sure where I said I was surprised. Or that I didn't know what type of game it was. Thanks for your comments though.

got the beta loaded and going to see how it plays & runs on my PC

even if I like the beta enough to consider buying the game, I'm going to be waiting to see how the devs handle anti cheat in the game

Bleh, they wiped characters from previous beta so gotta start over. Did the first mission and have no desire to play it any more

They also had the tech wing mission which was pretty cool but long. My friend and I played it together. Dark zone has a lot more people without mics. Not sure but in the other beta we could hear them chatting in proximity even if we were in a party chat. Dunno if they patched that on the console.

I'm still going to buy it because I enjoyed it with a good group of people. But this time around people just shot everyone in sight which made it annoying.

Just installed the beta, and so far so good I guess. Although the GUI seems a bit convoluted to me, I'm enjoying it..

One thing I must say is that the engine is EXTREMELY impressive. The amount of detail it pushes out along with the high framerate is amazing, especially for DX11. I'm running it at 1440p max settings with the exception of shadows which I have set to high instead of PCSS. PCSS has a huge framerate hit in this game, so I recommend turning it off unless you're running SLI.

My 980 Ti which is overclocked to 1480/8000 is performing very well. Mostly at 60 fps with the exception of a few trouble spots like Pennsylvania avenue which have tremendous detail and lots of objects.. In these areas the framerate will be in the low to mid 50s, which is still smooth..

I'm running 3200x1800 (defaulted to VSR) on a Radeon 290 (haven't tried Crossfire - not even sure it's supported yet). Runs very smooth on the high settings it defaulted to, even on Pennsylvania avenue. Which I guess means this game will run decently even on lesser hardware as well.

First impressions:

Meh. The words wasted potential come to mind. This could be a great game... but it just feels underwhelming, repetitive, and uninspiring. Hopefully the retail product is better, but I wouldn't hold my breath.

AI is pretty much dumb as a rock.

Gunplay is meh. Cover system is rather clunky.

Show stopper:
Got "The Division is not available" errors right in the middle of a mission, and haven't been able to connect since.

Subjective graphics notes:
There is a marked increase in visual fidelity going to ultra from high. I haven't finished tweaking settings yet but I think 1440p ultra settings minus a setting or two would be very possible on a 290/390/970 or similar video card. Outside of the resolution though, it still looks very console-ish, and a far cry from their early trailers... let's hope textures and effects get an upgrade with retail, but I wouldn't hold my breath.

I played for about 12 hours yesterday. It was far better than I was expecting considering it's Ubisoft. I didn't have any disconnects, lag spikes, or crashes. Only ran into a few bugs/glitches.

The AI seems to get smarter at higher levels which makes sense. At level 8-9 they seem to make much better use of cover.

Despite not being a huge PvP person, the Dark Zone is where it's at. Give it a try before you dismiss the game.

My dark zone experience sucked... but maybe I gotta give it more time. I love the idea of losing loot when you die, but the firefights were kinda lame. Rest of the game was "meh".

I jumped two different guys putting a bunch of rounds their back, and ended up dying. Everyone seemed timid, waiting on you to attack first, and yet still killed me.

One stronghold or whatever it is called and I got annihilated by the NPC's, not that upset because I'm sure it is supposed to be a group event.

I'll try again, maybe on the xbox one. Kinda ran crappy on my aging computer anyways.

Right nwo I don't have interest in this game, and whenever I do bother to get it I'm probably getting it for PS4- I won't use Uplay on PC.

This game somewhat reminds me of City of Heroes in a way, little zones with a PvP dedicated zone that has some PvE on the side.

some comparison shots against using Reshade SMAA + Lumasharpen

- Reshade SMAA + Lumasharpen at 1.69
- in-game SMAA, SSAA disabled
- in-game Chromatic Aberration disabled, 0% Sharpening
- everything else maxed

the text to the right is much clearer than the other screenshots with Reshade

- no Reshade
- in-game SMAA, SSAA disabled
- in-game Chromatic Aberration disabled, 0% Sharpening
- everything else maxed

- no Reshade
- in-game SMAA, SSAA enabled
- in-game Chromatic Aberration disabled, 50% Sharpening
- everything else maxed

- no Reshade
- in-game SMAA, SSAA enabled
- in-game Chromatic Aberration disabled, 100% Sharpening
- everything else maxed

here's a screenshot with Chromatic Aberration. Look at the NPCs to the left. Chromatic Aberration can die in a fire.

I played about 10 hours of the open beta. I enjoyed it, but I think it was enough honestly. I don't think its worth buying. I already played this game except it was called Destiny last time.

I get why you have that feeling. Although I enjoyed it and most likely will buy it for sure..I have a feeling it's going to annoy me with the dark zone players. Literally every person I spotted immediately would start shooting at me. My weapons aren't that good either so I died a handful of times. But it got super annoying unless you are always with a good group.

What I hate the most about the dark zone is when your turret starts shooting other players after all the enemies are gone. Then all of a sudden you are rouge and everyone shoots you and takes your good loot. I'll admit, I rage quit a few times because of that.

I played about 14 hours (about 70% of the time I was solo) and in that time, I'd say I didn't witness that at all. By the end of the weekend, rogue players were getting pretty rare.
