I thought that is why this game was made..?

It's why the game ultimately failed.

Once the innovation dried up and the actual game started to suck, they thought they could just sell bigger and bigger boobs alone and it didn't work.

Surely the camera would face towards them, not away from them, if that was the case.

Have you seen what they can do in Lara Croft: Angel of Darkness?

What on earth are you talking about? TR1-4 sold over 5 million copies each. I hardly call that a failure.

Its been forever since I played the first one, but I guess I'm in the minority and never felt Tomb Raider was anything special and only got worse and worse with each game. I always hated the controls (its like the RE tank controls but then adding in extra dimensionality to it and pairing it with early 3D cameras...) and wasn't impressed by any of the rest either really. The only reason I could tell that people kept buying them was this weird projection that the first one was some total masterpiece (I think its better than I give it credit for, for the time) and well tits! Its weird because I played the first two, and watched other people play the 3rd and some of the ones after that, but no one seemed to actually enjoy the games. It was like people played them because they felt they had to because it was supposed to be this really popular game or something.

I'm really at the people gushing over the music and some of the comments on that video make me laugh and just shake my head. I don't think the music is bad, but...

Even Eidos considers the franchise to basically have become a failure. How many times did they talk about how they were going to make it good and how its not like the first few sequels? Just because it sold well and made lots of money doesn't mean it wasn't a failure. It eventually did end up a failure money wise too.

I enjoyed TombRaider 2, interesting level designs..etc Just the controls are shit. TR3 was more of the same but they added some different paths to take, wasn't too bad either.

Too bad the series (up until the new one) had 9 games, more than half of which were derivative and plain boring.

Maybe you computer geeks had deep, wonderful games to get into, but I was a PS guy when TR came out and there was NOTHING like it. Trust me, I looked for a long time. I'm sure I played hundreds of PS games back then; my friends and I were pretty hard core. It absolutely dwarfed everything that came before it and blew all of us away. As a mater of fact - I never ran into a gamer who grew up on PS that didn't love TR.

It was such a revolutionary, groundbreaking experience. And the music is among the best ever composed for a video game.

I'm wondering whether the people who complain about the controls for the older games had issues like if the camera turns that they expect the controls to change as well... no, you want her to turn to her left, that's why you press LEFT. Do you also have problems with map reading?

The later games had me grinding my teeth (after AOD I think) where a camera change resulted in a control change, and suddenly you're running round in circles...

As for me, I don't think there's been a game as good as the original Tomb Raider games or since in terms of a puzzle/action 3D adventure game. I think the reason for what sulaco refers to as QTE segments is that the control system in the newer games doesn't allow the player to pull off the sort of moves that the originals did. I'm glad I haven't played Anniversary, after watching the new version of the T-Rex scene done in that lame (QTE) format.
