I was a big fan of the new Tomb Raider game. I have the PS3 and PS4 versions, and really enjoyed the game...
BUT, there's one little pesky thing I don't like about it. And that is that it's called "Tomb Raider".
I don't honestly don't think the old games and the new one have ANYTHING to do with each other. The main character, Lara, is extremely different, and so is the gameplay.
I get it. Tomb Raider was on the decline for years, since the series only appealed to a niche market, but the "Tomb Raider" and "Lara Croft" names were still highly valuable from a marketing perspective. Using these marketable names in a more mainstream adventure game, made sense...
Yet, I hope Square Enix noticed that this strategy actually worked against them. Early on, there were a lot of old fans who didn't research the game, like Mike, and then got a much different game than expected. Some of these people were unhappy, and went to the forums, giving a very good uncharted-style game, bad feedback, based on the fact that it wasn't a Tomb Raider style game. It ended up taking longer for positive word of mouth to spread on Tomb Raider 2013, as a result, from my observations.
I think that the quality of the title is what pushed it through to it's current success, and not the Tomb Raider name.
Anyways, though, with lots of reviews being out for a long time on the game... I think that mikeymikec's criticisms are foolish at this point. It just shows how little attention people put into what they buy during the Steam Summer Sale.
