Quick question, why are Cuban cigars so sought after?

illegality does have something to do with it, but the cubans are known for their exceptional rolling and quality tobacco. the best Cuban cigars are among the best in the world, but yeah, Honduras, Nicaragua, DR...plenty of fine cigars made elsewhere.

It's my understanding (take this with a grain of salt because they told me this in Honduras) that Cubans used to have the best quality tobacco and rolling but that the other countries in the area (namely Honduras and Nicaragua like you mentioned) have caught up and are just as good.

That being said, I don't smoke so I wouldn't know.

I've heard arguments both ways. Some say they're genuinely better, and others say it's the illicit nature that makes them taste better. I've had snus that used Cuban tobacco, and it really gave it a distinctive taste. I don't if that taste would have been the same with Honduran tobacco, but it was a unique flavor experience.

really should smoke with a friend. if you are outside by yourself doing nothing but smoking you'll probably get bored, and that doesn't help.

Not because they are illegal. They are legal up here in Canada and are still the most popular cigars. They are on average far more tasty then the average non cuban. Almost every Cuban tastes pretty damn good, with some being exceptional. You cannot say the same about NC's. My fav. NC cigars are Padron, Olivia, CAO.

That isn't that good of a cigar really. I would of got you to buy a Padron 2000, one of the best NC cigars out there.

That's how I always saw it. I very seldom smoke cigars, but if I do, it's under the conditions you described :^)

a few years ago before the cigar shop in tuscaloosa went out of business, i was spending $30 - $50 a week on stogies.

and I like it a lot actually
it's not too hard to keep from inhaling it (something I was most worried about)

Yes, they will get rougher the closer you get to the end. I usually snub it out with about 3 inches left or so.

Lol I'm the same way, especially when I pay a decent amount for one. I'm like I want alllllll of itttttt.

You should try a couple cheapies as a point of comparison. See how they compare to something craft made.
