I love scotch.

I've been eying on trying cigars but constantly decide against it because the negative effects of it is no better than cigarettes:

1. You and your clothes smell like shit
2. Your mouth doesn't care if it's cigar or cigarette. It's terrible for dental health (teeth, gums, tongue)
3. I believe it's still bad for your lungs although you don't inhale it.

Not a good habit.

Definitely not a good habit. Fun to partake in every now and then? Sure. I smoke a cigar once or twice a month tops. Keeps me from building up a tolerance so I get a pleasant buzz each time I have a good one.
A guy I worked with for a bit smoked 3-4 full sized cigars EVERY day. Now that is bad for you.

it's just like chewing tobacco I assume. All i know is I get an awesome buzz off a single cigar that just puts me in a fantastic mood.

? I'm further confused. I thought cigars didn't contain nicotine, thus touting that it's not addictive.

they def. contain nicotine...it's tobacco- all forms of tobacco contain nicotine. Cigars are actually tobacco rolled in tobacco =)
And the nicotine gets absorbed throught the lining of your mouth.

Get a cool pair of sunglasses because you're cool now. I envy you. Let me spend my money on a worthless habit and possibly get addicted to cigars. While you're sucking in smoke I'll be breathing in some fresh air and enjoying my health.

All that air you're sucking in daily is gonna be the end of you one day.

Honestly I'v done my reading on heath effects on smoking and yes they are bad but I don't plan on smoking 12 cigars a month.

Thanks again folks! Off to the cigar shop!

Some may disagree, but an ACID Blondie would be a good place to start - very mild and tasty. Infused cigars aren't for everyone though.

I don't know if I'd do a whole cigar the first time unless you're smoking outside. I felt TERRIBLE after smoking a whole cigar indoors, even over a long period of time talking with friends.

Fuck that...if I'm gonna smoke a cigar...I'm gonna inhale the dammed thing.

Yes, the average cigar contains about the same amount of tar & nicotine as 70 cigarettes...but just "mouthing" the smoke seems like a pussy way to smoke a cigar. "I tried it but I didn't inhale."

Inhale and enjoy.

OP, the tobacco shop should be able to give you good "first-timer" recommendations if you don't know anyone who smokes cigars.

If you're not already a smoker...why are you wanting to start?

Around here, many liquor stores have a decent cigar selection...some with "humidor rooms" for storage. Macanudo is a decent quality cigar. Not the best you can buy, but decent.

You're sucking on a straw. That's how I was taught to smoke. Inhale air, and then suck on the cigar like a straw. Let it sit and take in the entirety of the flavor, then blow it out.

Just a heads up- it'll probably not be a good experience...I don't care what you smoke- the first time prob. won't be pleasurable/enjoyable...especially if you inhale, but even w/ out that you probably won't feel too great afterwards...

You could try Backwoods or Swishers from the drugstore. I'm not a big cigar fan, but I like both of them, and the price is right. They're also mild, so you shouldn't get your ass kicked.
