I like it! The more reviews I can read the better! Even if I disagree with them.

Good: It has NEWS! Gives an second opinion on reviews. Covers more that AT covers.. a lot more. New and flashy site ;-) They update a lot more often. AT updates so slow... more articles please!!

Bad: More "general user" oriented leading to not-so-technical reviews. Some of their reviews are kind of "so what"-ish. Their forums SUCK... its user base consists primarily of 15yr olds who know nothing about computers or life.

Tom's reviews suck but I like their comparison charts (VGA, CPU). And I've noticed that their forums seem to have a lot of "wtf my new pci express card doesn't fit in my compaq's pci slot?!?!1" type posts.

I definitely prefer AT, but Tom's does have some interesting stuff once in a while even if it isn't too well written. But I have to agree with the poster above that said 'the more reviews, the better' - anyone that gets all their information from one source, even AT, is doing themselves a disservice.

I stopped visiting them much after it appeared to me that MSI bought the "editor's choice award" for intel i865 motherboards a couple of years ago.

One week Tom's is pointing out that MSI is using a hidden "dynamic overclock" that isn't BIOS-controllable to cheat on i865 benchmarks and make your system unstable.

A couple of weeks later the site is plastered with MSI ads, and Toms picks the same board over better boards from Abit and Asus. Coincidence?

thats a good example Dave and i think that underscores the feeling for toms here. its not hatred but a lack of trust. for more recent examples, look at their x2/840 stress test or their psu stress test. or their botched review of the dfi sli board.

i used to like their vga comparison charts but frankly their are many other sites where i can get the same info.

I like that they often review stuff that aren't reviewed by others. But sometimes their conclusions doesn't match their own figures. Basicallly like any other reviewsite draw your own conclusion read theirs, and if it match.....fine. If not well.....fine too.

Back in the day (1997) when Thomas Pabst (the originator of the site) was the author of most of tom'shardware articles it was one of the best place to get info about new hardware and overclocking, somewhere in 2001/2002 he stopped writhing the articles himself completely and that?s when it started to go down the pipe, by 2004 it got so bad that I switched my main hardware review site to AT (although I still got some good memories from tom's at the CeleronA era).

According to thier winter round up my 7800GT gets a higher score than a 7800GTX 512 at stock speeds in 3dmark2005. At that point i stopped even looking at thier stats.

Thier reviews are superfical and missing half the information that you want/need if you know anything about the bits they are reviewing.

With the exception of thier monitors bit, which i really like.

I like THG but some seem to be prejudiced against it for various reasons. I guess you either like it or dont. Not really worth arguing over IMO.

Tom's isn't a bad site, in fact it offers quite a comprehensive look at the computer industry. However it is quite biased in some reviews.

On the other hand everyone comes here for advice and I'm sure that many of us are biased one way or the other on hardware.

i don't feel that THG gives fair and unbiased reviews. Too many years of watching them suck on Intel's wang for me.

Are you referring to the "opinion" review that one of their employees wrote? The one where the DFI was displayed as the worst motherboard ever because the reviewer was too stupid to know how to set up his own system?

I think I recall him falling back on "good old dependable MSI" for his incompetence. Does MSI really want the name of a n00b board? After I read that article I wrote a long and detailed email about the absurdity of the article's DFI bashing, and how incompitent the author was.
