Anyone know Dells return policy? If I were to purchase this and after a few days realize I didn't like it could I send it back for a refund?

I started to walk through this deal and noticed that Dell was charging $14 tax. I didn't think they charged tax for online purchases.

Does this come with a charger and a mounting kit? I ask because they give the option of adding it when you go through the purchase. It would seem silly if they were selling just the unit by itself and you had to pay for all the extras to actually use it.

Just an FYI, TOMTOM does not include WalMart's in their Point of Interests. Which, love it or not they are open 24 hours and sometimes the only store around.

Just want you to know before you buy one. I wish someone would have told me.

I believe the option to add a charger and mounting kit is an additional kit (e.g. so you don't have to bring the mount with you when you're driving a second car)

In for one, thanks guys... also this unit is Navtones capable. Seems like they'd be annoying but just some extra info on the product.

I was actually looking at that one closely too and the only turnoff there is that it only offers 750,000 POI's.

I've got a few million with my gps unit (mio) and there is nothing like having a great resource of local poi's when on the road. It was much better than the latest garmin v.8 maps as well. 750k sounds like very few compared to the ones with 2-6 million for the entire database.

Finally went to pull the trigger on this deal and it appears to be dead now Thats what I get for being so indecisive.

I've got a $50 credit from sears so maybe I'll just go get a Maestro 3100 for $150. Although I'm not thrilled about the POI's.

I ordered this Friday, got it Monday with the free shipping. Also Dell is having a 20% off selected items for "a limited time" and this came up to $239.20 before tax, free shipping on peripherals over $129. I tried this unit on a trip across state and it worked great. It gave me a heads up on which way I'm going to need to bear after a turn, so I'm not trying to take a right then a quick left going over 3 lanes of traffic. I love it!

Java nice update. I've actually heard that the TomTom deal is back on and good through the 21st. So those of you that missed out might want to recheck it.

I however decided to cheap out and headed over the staples where I picked up a Mio C220 for $159 + tax. Saved me about $70 over the TomTom which is good news for me because I'm on a pretty tight budget.

As far as the specs are concerned the TT1 and the C220 are practically identical. They both use new Teleatlas maps with 3.5 mil poi. The Mio is lighter and has 4.5 hours of battery life as compared to 2 hours on the TomTom. The user interface is where the TomTom shines. I played with one at BestBuy and aside from the Nuvi it was best I've seen. Nice navigation layout. Only thing I wasn't crazy about was the small keypad for data input. My fat fingers had problems with hitting the wrong keys.

The Mio on the other hand has a layout that takes a little more practice to get used to. The first 30 minutes I played with it I was a little frustrated because I wanted it to be more user friendly. But after 3 days of playing with it I have to say I like the interface and the control it offers. I do not think there is anything the TT1 can do that the Mio can't do with the exception of receiving Bluetooth signals (which wasn't of importance to me.). Mio systems are quite hackable and so far I've hacked mine to allow the playing of MP3's and video. I've also downloaded new skins that are totally customizable. From what I've been reading you can actually load the TomTom operating system onto a Mio device.

As far as route planning and navigation is concerned I can't speak for the TomTom but I can give major props to Mio. Route planning is great as it allows you to plan ahead and make an itinerary that includes multiple stops. Suprisingly this is something that many budget GPS units can not do (A Nuvi weakness). I have a route that I travel weekly and I know it by heart. Every time I've planned that route using google earth, maps.google, maps.yahoo, mapquest, and the Garmin Nuvi it wanted to send me on some rediculous dirt road that would be a terrible option to take. I tried it on my mio and it's the first device that did not send me on that dirt road So I'm happy as far as navigation is concerned.

I don't want to be made out as a Mio fanboy as I've only had the unit for 3 days. And I really like the TomTom. But I can't complain about saying $70. I can get a lot of stuff with $70

I've recently been doing a lot of research on GPS units and have found a couple of things to be widely accepted. #1 Make sure the unit you buy has a Sirfstar 3 receiver. It is far superior to anything else and is used by most new units although Tom Tom is going to change to a different receiver. #2 If you are using the unit in North America be sure to get a unit that uses NAVTEQ maps. They are considered to be far superior to the Tele Atlas maps in this country but Tele Atlas amps are considered superior to NAVTEQ in Europe. For some reason Tom Tom(a Dutch company) used NAVTEQ in their European units and Tele Atlas in their North American units. www.gpsmagazine.com is a good source of information on GPS units. The Magellan Roadmate 2000 is available through Wal Mart(online only) and Toys R Us for $199. This is the unit I'm leaning toward. It's hard to beat at that price. Refurb units can be had for around $150 but only carry a 3 month warranty.

Thats an old school way of thinking for sure. Maybe in the older days that held true but with both companies recently releasing updated maps it's become a dead heat. I've read many reviews lately that commend Teleatlas for stepping up their North American Mapping program. One of those reviews is at GPSReview.net. As fo teh new wave of maps updates from early 2007 there neither Navteq or TeleAtlas appear to be superior over one another.

I agree with coomarlin, TomTom has updated its maps and they are now newer than the ones that NAVTEQ has on the markets. All the new TomTom devices come with them and in addition to that TomTom has a really good map error reporting service where consumers are also helping keep the devices up to date.

In addition to this, TomTom is coming out with a new device called the 720 which is going to allow users to directly make changes to their own maps and then can share them with the company and can eventually be share with other users. This sounds like the best idea I've heard so far when it comes to having the most accurate maps available and doesn't really matter where you live for it to work.
