Anyone notice that Jacob touched every person he went to visit off island? He poked kate in the nose, touched jacks hand while passing the candy, touched lockes shoulder, etc. They seemed to focus on that. Wonder what it means

No, they make the show to draw out assholes on the internet that like to whine about a show that others may enjoy....

my head hurts.

So... Jacob and his buddy(?) on beach sound like they've been through the time travel fun for awhile already at that point. Buddy(?) wants to fine a loophole. For some reason, really wants to kill him. But physically can't? Reasons?

Somehow that buddy finds a loophole, and has taken the identity of Locke? Okay, head pain #1.

Richard from the Black Rock, well... that doesn't help, just gives a little more origin. His eternal youth, however? hmm

Did Jacob like... revive Locke by touching him after falling from the building? Or was that touch just enough to snap him out of the "im almost dead" moment?

I have a lot more moments that threw me for a spin, but got some other stuff to take care of and hit the sack.

But, with the one comment in this thread about it being weak writing to introduce a character in the finale just to be used to wrap things up?
I don't agree with that. One, it was really only introducing the physical appearance, and some notion of personal motivations, of the character. The character itself has been around for awhile, though mostly as background with no details. Now he was used as a physical presence, to tie together many story elements that revolved around him. But he's not done yet.

He'll probably be in a lot of the episodes of the final season, as we get more into the story revolving around him and the island, and the motivations of his involvement with the O6.
And obviously he, like Richard, knows how to take advantage of time travel, not age one bit, and manage to jump to whatever time he wants, to interact with people off the island.
Does Richard hailing from the Black Rock, reaching shore so long ago in the island's time, mean Jacob introduced him to all the same information? Or, at least piece by piece as time has moved along?

And what was with Ilyana speaking Russian in one scene, which would match her native dialect it would seem, and yet use a Spanish form of Richard, and understand Richard's answer in Spanish?

Next season is going to be intense. Head will probably hurt every episode.

(everything flying around in Jacob's cabin from quite a ways back? still completely unexplained, probably will stay that way, or maybe smokey did it)

I don't even know where to begin with this episode, but all I can say is that I'm interested to see where the show heads from here. Season 6 could either be absolutely stunning, or a total flop. However the show ends, I will be sad to see it go, it was definitely one of the more interesting concepts on network TV.

Anyways, beyond that, what a mindfuck of an episode. But wow, it was good

The guy from the beginning of the episode was locke at the end...he was also Christian through all 5 season...as well as Bens daughter a few weeks ago...he was also in the cabin that one time...when Ilana said someone else was using the cabin, it was the guy, who people keep calling Esau. That name is biblical terms is Jacobs brother who is trying to get his birthright, probably the island

He set that in motion the entire time. Christian told Locke he had to get off the island (to bring ben back) and die (so the guy can take over lockes body). He then became ben's daughter to make sure that ben would have to listen to everything locke says. Which includes killing Jacob.

"Despite the different attitudes of people to the god, he was venerated as one who restored sight to the dead, who revived their senses and who protected them from Set who attacked those souls who traveled through the land of the dead. "

...."This explains his link to the rebirth of the deceased into the after life."

Yup, that's what I'm thinking. It'd be cool to tie it back to the early Bible days.

The crocodile's power to snatch and destroy it's prey was thought to be symbolic of the might of the pharaoh - the strength and energy of the reptile was a manifestation of the pharaoh's own power.
In times of need, he gives the pharaoh strength and fortitude so that he may overcome all obstacles. He also protects the pharaoh from all harm, especially evil magic.
Sounds like the smoke monster!

Edit:

Temple - check
Sobeka Statue - check
Ankh Necklace - check
Dude named Horus - check
Dude named Jacob - check

god damn dissapointed. a million new questions with just about no answers. show completely turned around in 2 minutes, voiding a lot of what we thought we knew. the writers really pissed me off with this episode.

What's interesting is the description of the Ankh:

http://touregypt.net/featurestories/ankh.htm

One dude thought it represented the loop of a sandal ('nkh = that part of the sandal in Egyptian). I remember this because in the beginning of this episode, they zoomed in on his foot while operating the sewing machine and my wife said, I used to have sandals like that!

And all that is left of the statue is the foot with the sandal. Representing life. Which is where Jacob lives/lived.

Just watched it. Still reeling. Processing. When Locke fell out of the box, my friend and I were just screaming "holy shit, wtf, omgomgomgomg."

I called that they'd end it with a white background, at least I got that right.

What was important about that book Jacob was reading? They sure made it clear to see.

There has to be some "oh now I get it" end to this show. That's the only way that the show can seem so outlandish while at the same time seem coherent.

I thought it was cheap how they edited Jacob in into the flash backs. It would be awesome if you looked back at the first seasons and saw that he was already there but I'm pretty sure he wasn't.

Interesting twist to the show.

I was beginning to think this Jacob character wasn't even real.

What should be VERY clear to people is that the Locke that came back to life on the island IS NOT LOCKE. It's the guy sitting next to Jacob on the beach in the opening scene who says I'm going to kill you someday.

I couldn't help but feel the show took a turn into a very Matrix-esque kind of plotline. Apparently these two guys are engaged in some sort of game/war that we do not know enough about yet other than the guy who isn't Jacob was able to get back to the island somehow. Anyways the last words Jacob spoke were "they're coming" which OBVIOUSLY refers to the Losties.

The opening scene reveals a lot about what this last season will be like. Apparently these two men have witnessed something happening with people coming onto the island over and over and over again repeating the same behavior. They mentioned that it was all progress until the Final event happened. Anyways we simply weren't given enough information to figure out much.

How awesome was Jack's face when he started shooting at Linus, after Linus gut-shot Sayid? The angry/blank look, the walking forward, Jack was a fucking monster tonight. I loved it.

It seems the guy from the beginning of the episode who wants to kill Jacob can't actually physically kill him for whatever reason. Hence why he needed Ben to do it.

I was kinda thinking that too. It seemed this episode had a touch of biblical structure to it.

Remember how Michael couldn't kill himself? No matter what he tried, for example he tried to shoot himself in the head but the gun malfunctioned? Howver, we never found out if it was only Michael who couldn't kill himself, but if someone else could.
I think that is the same type of rule that was preventing Jacob from being killed.

that was Latin, no? Ricadus definitely has that Latin-y sound to it.
