Anyway, no point in continuing...don't think either of us is going to budge on this issue.
Um, your original statement was incorrect and your analogy made no sense. iamme was dead right.

just out of curiosity, have you owned a thinkpad before?

Not personally own, but I have used a T42 on a regular basis. I did think it was very good, but there was no way I could have justified the added expense of buying it compared to my experience with other Dell/Gateway/Micron laptops I've used. This was primarily when I used to work in tech support in college, so I have a pretty decent idea of how it ranked among a wide range of similar products.

Love it or hate it, Fleabay is a decent reference for fair market value, so I put in "IBM T22", some are assessories, but 672 current auctions, and 2674 completed. Sorted by price high to low its around page 6 with shipped prices from $350 to $300 that the bidding gets heavy, and language like "for parts" starts showing up along with bare or partial systems. Really nice complete systems were more like $450 to $400. My view, Woot warm. I would try to find somebody local that doesn't want to fuss with auctions and offer them $300.

Keep in mind though over the next 30 days old laptops are going to get bought up like crazy for school. My son is getting our old IBM 770 with no battery.

I have an R51 and I still think this is overpriced. Shop around and get a better deal. I too LOVE the keyboard and the general build quality. I couldn't believe how crappy my old Inspiron 4000 feels after this thing. The only benefit to Dells is parts are cheap and plentiful on eBay.
