RIP
He battled
Ulcerative colitis for 25 years that lead to his colon cancer. Had surgery in 2005 to remove his colon but had developed colon cancer by then. His mother dies at age 38 from colon cancer for also having UC.
I can relate to his story because I also had UC for many years until surgery in 2006 remove my colon. I am lucky though because I never developed cancer by the time I decided to have my colon removed.
I believe he waited to long to face the reality that his UC needed to be removed surgically. It's a very tough decision to make .. living with a " bag " the rest of your life when meds seem to be working. Not something I took lightly at all but the risks were to great not to go through with it. The thing is UC patients can have a
J-pouch like I did and be bag free .. tough surgeries for sure but well worth the struggle.
