I don't see him intentionally trying to hurt people on these videos, also if you want to talk about safety, the worst thing one can do is to walk around a race track with cars on it (even if it was under yellow flags, it was less than 30s), the only possibility I can see of blame for Tony Stewart is if he was indeed trying to intimidate the other driver and misjudged it, but my initial reactions is that the other driver just put himself into to much danger and payed for it, Stewart didn't have much room to react, still very unfortunate the whole thing... hopefully it will help to improve the safety standards regarding driver's behavior,

Seems Tony Stewart is still going to race at Watkins Glen which today is race day.

I'm not a race car driver and even I know that high horsepower, dirt, and flooring it near another human equals bad things. If this isn't murder then it's negligent homicide.

The video is horrific and very stragic.. Tony Stewart is going to jail for a long time. Only 17. RIP. Nascar needs to also institute a new rule giving any driver that walks out of the car onto the track an automatic 3 race suspension

More like race-car assisted suicide.

From the footage I've seen I can't make any call about any of the actions of the drivers, except for the the driver running into the racing line of a dirt track, who clearly did not value his physical integrity much. If you're that disregardful of safety, you'll get killed.

As for the engine noise, impossible to tell from the video which car did it. Might have been the car that had to edge around the idiot, and then had to accelerate to get back to the original gap to the car in front.
A message to tell the idiot to back off the thread was also warranted, so maybe that was the intention, and he misjudged it.

In the end, whoever raised that kid is to blame. If you raise your kid to be a racer, you've got to drill safety culture into them, or this is bound to happen.

Almost this don't know about Tony Stewart going to jail but walking out into a crowed track full of cars = Darwin Award.

If he did indeed gun it and they weren't supposed to then he should be charged with something, although I don't know anything about the rules of racing. That was very stupid to walk out into a track of racing vehicles though, metal always wins over flesh.

Local news articles. The one from Syracuse has a video of the accident.

Ontario County Sheriff Philip Povero said his department's investigation is not criminal and that Stewart was "fully cooperative" and appeared "very upset" over what had happened. "He was visibly shaken by this accident," Povero said.

that is very sad

and even if he gunned it right before he hit the guy, he could have been gunning it to try and turn to avoid him, which would explain why the rear end spun out. i highly doubt that he tried to hit someone with his car.

Hard to feel bad about the dead driver. Everyone thinks they're invincible until they're not.

Why did he walk towards the cars. Why did he not wait for Stewart until after the race to go off on him?

I don't see a need for Tony to hit the throttle. That remains unclear if that indicated motivation to scare the kid or get out of the way. It sounds like hitting the the throttle in these cars causes the back to kick out.

So why hit the throttle instead of just turning out of the way?

Need a better video of the line Tony took here, if the line was pretty straight and the kid was in it, or if the line was pretty straight and the kid wasn't in it make a big difference.

There could be motivation, but nothing beyond reasonable doubt. No charges for Tony IMO. It's also not a justice system, it's a selective application of laws that we begrudgingly call a legal system. Tony has lot of money and power in his position, he wins. Kid and his family I'd guess have neither money nor power. In cases where one has money/power that's all that matters, in cases where neither have money or power there's better chance for justice.

to be fair, with the way that stupid fuck just marched right out onto the track. It could just as easily have been the car he had to jump out of the way for a few seconds before. Kid fucked up, paid for it.
