No, but witnesses have eyes and ears. It's apparently another driver that was in the stands, read it and decide if you want to believe him. Personally, I don't really care what Tony did, the guy put himself in harms way.

At 10:30 p.m. on August 9, Saturday night, at the Canandaigua Motorsports Park during the Lucas Oil Empire Super Sprints, there was a on-track incident at the end of Turn 2. One car crashed against the wall. The driver of that sprint car exited the car, walked into the track, came down into the racing area. This is while the race was under a yellow flag. A first sprint car swerved to avoid the driver of the car that had walked down into the track. A second sprint car, operated by driver Tony Stewart, age 43 of Columbus, Indiana, struck the operator of the sprint car that was on the track.

When was the last time you can show that a driver exited their vehicle to show their anger towards another driver before the safety crew was there? Pretty much every time a driver goes off like this, it is well after the incident when the track is well aware of the caution condition (i.e. drivers know the reason for the caution and are able to recognize the safety crew's position).

Last time I remember Stewart going off was at Bristol when he threw his helmet at Matt Kenseth's car. That happened several minutes after the incident when Stewart was being walked across pit road by safety crew members.

Bottom line, this kid surrendered the safety of his vehicle and placed himself in harms way. He paid the ultimate price for doing so.

I stand by what I said.

the guy can't claim to know what tony could see. again look at the video the lighting is bad and the guy that got hit was wearing BLACK.

it is very possible that tony just didn't see him

since these are dirt track cars they slide all over. only a fucking idiot gets out of car and walks into the path of another racer.

Yep. Which also adds to the fact that vision might have been a problem. Tony might have had milliseconds by the time that earlier car cleared to be able to see him.

I have seen estimates of about 15 degrees of vision when there is traffic in front of you on a dirt track. This is very much like the situation we saw and might help explain things.

What if he did see him? People stand off to the side and make gestures. What they don't do is stand in your path. This happened in the turn where you wouldn't be able to immediately determine if he's in your path as you're turning.

I dont think Tony saw him.
The guy in front of him swerved, probably kicked up dirt causing a blindspot.
Tony was also probably fixated on the backwards car, not expecting some kid wearing all black to be standing right infront of him.

My bet is he gunned his engine in an attempt to intentionally spray the kids car, not realizing the kid was actually out of the car and right in his path.

Im want to hear Tony's perspective.

EDIT: Also, the camera panned away for a second, but when it returns it kinda looks like the kid stepped more infront of tony.

Eyewitness accounts. Common sense. You hear a car goosed then see a car heading sideways down the track. Gee that's tough to connect the dots..

Since it was recording something across the track on the other side, I would assume the sound was from one of the closer cars passing by (below the frame).

Also very possible. Since it was a dirt track its not like they can turn on a dime. Also, since it was a turn on a dirt track, the way the drivers turn is to hit the throttle.

It is impossible to see if he was hit on purpose from the YouTube video in the OP, you only see the person getting hit, not the moment before. Him slightly turning is because the guy was under his tire already by that point. You cannot see if he turned into him at all from that video. Aliso there's no way you could hear him gun it because there are cars closer to the video being shot since it's on the other side of the track. I don't care about Nascar so I'm not defending him but people cannot come to the correct conclusion and say he did it on purpose solely from the YouTube video.

He only turned into him to try not to hit him most likely but his reaction was too late. Seeing that there was someone just in front of him it's not surprising at all.

Too many people jumping to conclusions off of a grainy video and "word on the track." Sad to see that kid die like that. I'm sure we will know more facts in the coming days.

I was a kid once and I drove a motorcycle back them.

Somebody offended me on the road for some stupid reason one day and. I decided I was going to tailgate him to teach him a lesson.

WRONG!!!!!!!!!

He decided to brake check me. I came to a few inches of his rear bumper, all this at about 75 MPH.

I learned a lesson that day, never again would I tailgate a car while riding a motorcycle. I was lucky to get away with my life.

This kid made a stupid move here. Unfortunatly he did not live to talk about it. It's sad.

Tony may have also tried to scare him. I hope not but it is possible and the video is not conclusive. A dark mark on his record one way or the other.

Hopefully other videos will surface.
