After trying it, I have to agree: very buggy. I tried looking at the Halflife 2 movies, and the download got up to 250,000% before I finally cancelled it.

steam isnt laggy at all...

I pulled 1.9mb/sec downloading halflife throughout the whole thing. And im only on cable...

In game seemed just as good for me.

I will agree that it is buggy though... I still havnt been able to download the movies right from it... I just downloaded them from 3dgamers.

3dgamers also has the third movie, which steam hasnt released yet if anyone is interested...

If it is laggy on your computer, get a broadband connection with balls or find a server near you and quit whining.

You obviously havent been using steam, and its laggy on covad telesurfer pro in NJ, Comcast in MD, and even on a 10MBit EDU connection(which im sure has bigger balls then anything you have).

Granted there are a few servers that seem smooth at certain times, but every new release causes more problems.


Thanks for the support. Maddscientist I to have been playing cs for a decent amount of time. I first experienced steam in 1.4, it was worse then, which is hard to imagine.

well you people made me look like im the only one that actually still plays CS....

but yeah the 1.6 beta is buggy. i remember a bug where the terrorists' new gun has a max of 60 shells or something, drop the gun and pick up an ak, m4 or the new CT gun, then pick up the terrorists' new gun then now the max shell is 90.

i guess this is also a nice way to get people hooked again and actually buy original HL. $15 is not bad at all...

So anyway, I have played HL SP and CS for a while and the only bugs are probably the bugs that are in the actual game. It has crashed (the game) a few time mainly when you change resolutions in the options but other then that, it seems to be fine unlike a lot of people claim.

Hehe, thanks for setting them straight. I didn't know how long it had been out, but I did know that it has only been a public beta for a little while and therefore this is news to most people, even those who were hardcore enough to know about steam from the beginning.

Steam is buggy and maybe slightly more laggy than normal counterstrike, but the enhanced gameplay(better sound effects/new weapons etc) and the AWESOME new menu structure make it worth it IMO(and you can alt-tab out without messing up your sound for anyone who had that problem). I wish there were more servers cause there are usually only a few that are below 100 ping, but I get 30-50 ping to SF area servers and don't really feel any lag(I'm in Davis, not sure how many miles but about 45 minute drive). For anyone who is new to CS I strongly encourage you to play the fy_iceworld or fy_iceworld2k maps. They're small and quick, so when you die a lot you don't have to wait forever to come back. Plus you can try out all the weapons fairly easily.

Team Fortress will always be the greatest game ever, but there just aren't many servers and players anymore so I've started playing more CS. Now that you know more about how I waste my time than you probably care to, I think I'll go take some awp shots between the eyes.

I was a long-time TFC player until Day of Defeat went 1.0. If you loved TFC, you owe it to yourself to check out DoD. Are there any other excellent TFC-like MP mods? I'm talking about respawn immediate (or after a short delay, like DoD) mods, not CS dead-for-a-while types.

I never liked TFC.
I was a true Quake TF master, and TFC just never had the same feel.

THe best mod for Halflife is, without-a-doubt, Natural Selection
Not only is it completely original gameplay, but it is really well balanced and quite innovative!

I you love CS you will also love this version. I played it for a while a couple of months ago after downloading it from Kazaa. It has new weapons and new equipment like the riot shield, but not a lot of change in the play action.

1.6 final is not out yet... you're playing the beta.

Also, the shield stinks if you're a terrorist... nothing can penetrate the shield.
