Too good to be true?

Well, I just recently got a PM from someone offering me a dell 2400 for 100$. Of course, this sounded too good to be true, even though he said there were no Optical Drives, and no ram.

I'm just wondering what all of your opinions are, is he trust worthy?

I could get majorly scammed here, but if he were scamming me, would he mention that there were no drives/ram/etc?

4.3GB seagate HD (the WD/dell 40GB will be back in it in about 2 weeks)
no optical drives (wont be coming back ever)

im sorry, theres no real way to guarentee it, i dont ebay or use heatware (currently)

ShadowBlade : nothing, my mom got it for free through a saturn promotion maybe a year or two ago and i dont use it anymore
the only thing thats wrong is the damaged front pannel, ill take some pics and send a link to you

LoKe : The damaged case really doesn't matter to me, it's not a big deal really.

I know this is stretching a big far, but is there any possibility you could send it to me and then upon delivery I pay for it? I'd even pay you a bit more to have this safety.

I can understand if you don't want to do that, because that would require trusting me, which is the same situation I'm in.

If not, then I don't think I can do it. I don't come across money that often(only work one day a week), so if I were to get scammed, I'd have to put off building a computer for a while longer.

I have my own hard drive/ram/cd drive and whatnot, so I just need the bare necessities.

Was saving to build my own, but if I can get this then hey, why build my own right now?

The case damage is obvious, but if I could get this system for that price I'd be more than happy to buy a new one, even an Antec with the money I'd be saving.

That really doesn't mean anything to me. From his ATOT off-topic posts, he looks like an arse, and without any Heatware, I'd have him ship first. There are people here who have been on the boards less than 2 months and are already golden members.

The deal only works if you want to buy 1 at 299 but you get discount on the 2nd.

Good deal for him since you're buying it and he's making some change off you by taking out the optical drives and ram

Doesn't make too much sense to me.

However, I suggested he bring it to a friends house and tell his parents that he sold the cpu to him, and then he could have the UPS guy or whatever come and get it from there. I'll see what his reponse is, but otherwise, the deal's off.

I hear celerons run pretty slow, does anyone have experience with them?

It's a 2.4ghz celeron and I have 2x256 sticks of infineon ram just waiting to be put in.

He said he could probably find a way to get it to me, but the comp + shipping would cost me about 145USD. Still sound good?

We've kind of worked something out, he'll rent a PO box or something, and pay for that part because it's his fault.

Actually I can't imagine it to be that bad. My old Cely was pretty fast for its time. I've got a 2.53 P4 with 512 ram and a 440MX in my HP right now, and it runs pretty fast (nothing compared to this comp), definately fast enough to surf the web, listen to music, play a few games.
