Hi guys, I recently bought a pre-built gaming desktop. I usually get 40-45*C when idle, and around 55-70*C when playing games like Skyrim or Crysis 2. Is it normal?

CPU: AMD FX-4100 Quadcore 3.6Ghz

Case: Cooler Master Elite 430 Midi Tower black, 1X 120mm fan, Blue LEDs

Motherboard: M5A78L- M LX V2

GPU: Sapphire radeon 6870

RAM: 4GB 1333 Mhz

OS: Windows 7 home premium service pack 1

Power supply: Silver Power SP-SS500 500W

My case:

What I got after plaing Crysis 2 after 45mins :

As you can see, the CPU temperature varies from time to time.
Any idea how I can keep it down?

Oh and sadly I can't find any Hyper 212 Plus in Norway, But I did found a Cooler Master HYPER 212 EVO. Will it work?

if it fits in the case buy it as it is a bit better then the 212 hyper plus for cooling.

very odd temps. i was able to overclock my 4100 to 4.4GHz on stock and had the same temps so if on stock it shouldn't be that hot. Whats your room temp as that can affect your pc temps ?

It's not great. But if you're wondering whether it is safe, it should be fine. Check the heavy load temps after it builds up a few months of dust. My guess is it will still be acceptable. Not great but acceptable.

You're fine, but an aftermarket cooler wouldn't hurt. It may void your manufacturer's warranty, though.

That is pretty hot for an AMD chip, the FX4100 is rated for a max temp of 71C

Maybe force CPU fan to 100% in bios and see if that changes anything.

Also what are your ambient temps? (your room temperature)

I'm kinda noob at this but where do you force the fan to 100%?

Turned off Q-fan and set CPU fan low limit to 500 RPM, fan was running at 2500 RPM before. Now it's running 3800 RPM, I noticed 3-4*C difference in idle.

Don't force the fan, it'll just be noisier if it isn't noisy enough with the stock presets. Save yourself the trouble and get the heatsink that the others have already suggested. Shouldn't be too hard to install it as the instructions can be quite detailed on some user manuals.

I found out that I run games better on dual core, and the tmperature are low. Any reason for that?

You are probably being throttled as a quadcore with your temps.

Take the advice given to you in the thread and get a better aftermarket cooler.

Get a Corsair H80.... I have the same exact case as you and I have a FX-6100

Overclocked at 4.5ghz and on full CPU load it grazes 45 celius MAX!

Ill show you pictures of my setup if you like and it was super easy to install..

Gunna cost you 100 arms though.

I probably won't have the money until chrismas/january. Do you suggest that I stick with dual-core in the meantime?
