You can do dual monitors with 2k, as well as 98, Me, and even 95 if you had compatible video cards. I'm not sure about NT4, but it wouldn't surprise me if it worked there too.

<< Hey Purple D, I go to UIUC, anyone know how this microsoft download thing works? I never heard about this... >>

It's for CS majors - tonight at 5pm in DCL (20 mins from now). Non-CS are welcome, but have to pay a fee - like $5 or something. Just a little get together including free Za's subs and pizzas...

Whoa! You mean there's actually a sense of community amongst the CS majors at UIUC now? I graduated there just last May and if that's the case, then I tell ya, that's great... I guess all the cynical disgruntled students got out with their "piece of paper" within the past year or so...

Oh man, I miss Za's subs and pizzas...

UIUC has plenty of oppertunities to learn. If you didn't taken them and now can't get a job, guess who's fault it was? That's what sleepin through 373 gets ya

My school finally did an agreement at the end of last year, they charge us ~$100 technology fee once a year (it may seem alot but when they charge nearly $4000 a semester it's a drop in the bucket) and we get a set of CDs (with product keys stickers that look just like the stuff you get with Microsoft stuff so I wonder if they package them):
FrontPage 2002, Project 2000, Visio Pro 2002, Windows 2k Pro, Office Pro 2K, Visual studio 6.0 Pro along with some boot up disks.
Not really important to me because I have most of these or better already. But it great for those students that need Visual studio 6 for C, unlike when I took C they wanted us to spend $300+ for it. It still sucks that buying other academic stuff is almost full price or not worth it at all especaiily at how much we pay per semester.

dont give up quite so easily! i work for the tech department at a major university. we are constantly reworking the license agreements with most major software vendors. call up your campus department that handles computer-related stuff and ask if they sell student-licensed copies of software. if nothing else, staples and other major retailers sell the student/teacher versions of the office suite for around $150.

This deal is pretty good, but not unknown.

I, too, am attending a Wisconsin college for CIS and we have some pretty good prices available to us for MS products. BUT any other offerings are crap. Take a look at this link to our product page to see what deals we are able to get.

It is a pretty good offering, but I already have most of this stuff through *ahem*... alternate means.

Still, if you want this stuff legally, it is something to check into.

When you were there they had this type of stuff for UIUC majors. The bang mixers and studybreaks were great. I forget which one it was but the one with free food and ps2 gaming was huge. Also, in case anyone missed this event, you can always go to the CS department and take the CDs out on loan, then install the software. In fact, at UIUC the EE department had something set up like this for a while

And as for not getting a job, it seems like even UIUC can't help me out here (at least for now). The economy sure is tough. I don't have the best grades, but tech companies were gobbling up anyone who was a good coder. Now it's tough, and I graduate in May.

I don't think my school (University of British Columbia) has this sort of thing. Couldn't I get you guys to buy it for me and ship it over here since I'm a student too?

I am pretty sure that Rutgers does not have anything like this. http://mssg.rutgers.edu/license/default.htm that is the place that sells the RU licensed stuff. Basically u pay almost retail prices on most software but u only get burnt copies of the software. (I know this because i used to work there). Its a ripp of imho.

Unfortunately, no. It's clearly marked NOT FOR RESALE.

Ericlp, if it's free, wouldn't you rather have a legal copy than a pirated one?
