Too low voltage harmful?

Hello

I recently started tweaking my 2500k and found out by Enabling PLL Overvoltage, LLC to 75% and putting CPU VTT to 1.20v (default was 1.10v) made me achieve above 4.4ghz speeds.

I'm currently testing 46x * 100 = 4.6Ghz, Vcore Offset +210mv gives me 111GFlops (Linpack with AVX).
But I'm experimenting undervolting and so far Offset +180mv gives me 110GFlops.

Now I would prefer lover voltage but is there any way that CPU gets harm with the fact I'm getting 1GFlops less thus the voltage might be slightly too low.

So, I could leave it at +210mv and Linpack reports 111Gflops.
Or I could leave it at +180mv and Linpack reports 110Gflops.

My next step is trying out +170, +160mv.

I might even aim for 4.7-4.8Ghz problem is that +180mv gives me 75/82/85/82/85c so Hottest core after Linpack is 85c.

Low voltage won't usually hurt the cpu,but may corrupt your data on hard drives. If windows is in the middle of moving system data around, (which it always is), and you BSOD, there is always a chance of inability to boot. Then there is always the built in windows fail safes, like F5- boot to last know good configuration etc.

You shouldnt reduce the voltage from the stock that it comes with. Too low voltage your gonna get instability problems, and other problems like notty22 said,, corrupt data etc.... increased crashes,,,,,,,

Its not worth it,,, the default stock voltage is low enough already cuz you can OC that without touching vcore........

So If I never experience BSOD or crashes I'm good to go then with the lower voltage and lover GFlops in Linpack?

Edit--> Seems like false alarm, I had photoshop open, after closing it seems like I'm getting similar results with +180mv as with +210mv.

Also I got BSOD with +160mv.

Read up on silent data corruption and then decide if your data is worth the risk of loss.

No one can tell you your data is worth the risk, only you can.

But know that there is always risk of silent data corruption, even with a seemingly functioning system at stock, but the magnitude of the risk grows as you undervolt or overclock.

Silent data corruption is like cancer, by the time the external symptoms of the underlying tumor become self-evident (reboots, BSODs, etc) the damage is already done. At that point you should be so lucky as to at least know it is happening so you can stop the damage from expanding to more files.
