Too much light getting into my room

Got way too much light getting into my room which is bad because I'm kind of a nocturnal guy. Plus I'm sure it lets in a lot of heat too (92 degrees here today ). Got blinds and wooden shutters but they aren't cutting it - How can I cheaply block out all the sunlight/heat? Hopefully without making too big of an eyesore in my room. Will probably have to be from the inside too otherwise the HOA will probably get after me.

Seconded on blackout blinds. Though if you don't want to pay that much money, regular white bull down blinds may work. (not like "mini blinds" but the ones that look like a projector screen)

Or really thick curtains may work too.

I'd use foil, and cut each piece to fit perfectly in each light. It should look ok from inside, and out.

Plastic tarp (or garbage bags cut and stapled/taped together if you want to go cheaper route) behnd the blinds.

Or just really thick black drapes, which is what I use (I work nights on weekdays, keeping light out is big deal if I want uninterrupted sleep).

That's what I use- not that one specifically, but an eye mask- love it.

In addition to black out curtains there are black out blinds. Next day blinds sells them (although it took 6 weeks to get them figure that). They block out all the light except on the very edges. They are accordion type blinds in the middle are two layers of foil and they whatever color you pick blind material on the outside.

Not sure how the HOA issue complicates things, but the best solution (should you be there a while) would be trees. Plant some in strategic locations about your house. They shade you in the summer and shelter you from some of the wind in winter. Barring that, you can get some heat-reflective curtains for the summer.
