What does this post say about society?
Just this week I have:
- A friend who lost their nephew in Afghanistan
- A co-worker (the sweetest, most demure woman I've ever met ... dies from a rare form of cancer
- This ...
It tells me you don't know nor know how to deal with society very well.
Joking about tragedies is the first step towards dealing with it. Having an event like that labeled off limits means you'll never speak of it (minus in somber tone), never understand it nor move on from it. People died and it sucks that they did. They shouldn't have been killed by an idiot, but all your condolences and prayers and whatever-the-hell-else won't do a damn thing unless you actually do a damn thing. Donate to the families and see that they're better off. Donate blood. Go political -- but don't go full retard. You never go full retard.
You can actually show you care and still have a laugh even when a joke involves such a tragedy. Pretending to be offended because you've had certain people close to you go through difficulties doesn't help anyone. Everyone has had shit happen to them or those around them; that's life. If you want to help someone then do so, but complaining about certain aspects of human nature that other people exhibit whose will you can't control will only make you tired, Sisyphus. You shouldn't care because you know you've helped and ultimately that's all you can do. Once you understand that then it's never too soon and nor will it bother you. Then I'll welcome you back to society.
also the joke is offensive because it's not funny.
