I should have been more clear above...I don't have anything against DeWalt, and they are probably better in some areas than the Makitas, and vice versa. The type of work I'd be using this for is one of three things. First, I sometimes help a buddy installing/retrofitting server racks, and I also help another buddy from time to time putting office cubicles and furniture together. By far, I'd probably be using these on the Mustang, and general around the house stuff. From the people I've worked with, it seems people and tools are sort of like people and cars. Some guys swear by one brand, and others swear by another, when in reality, they are probably pretty comparable. My two buddies I do work with are a prime example...one swears Makita, and the other is a DeWalt guy. If I really wanted top of the line stuff, I'd probably look at a brand called "Matabo" (sp?)....it's supposedly the best of the best from what I've heard.
My main reason for Makita over DeWalt is more my experience with both. Up until now, I've had to borrow and use other peoples tools, and I've used both DeWalt, and Makita drivers. I have used both the impact and drill that comes in this kit a couple weeks ago, and the drill was light, and well balanced, and seemed to have just as much torque as an older 18v Makita I had been using. The impact was surprisingly strong, and supposedly is under-rated, and compares well with the Makita. The impact is very well balanced and light as well, and while the LED light seems kinda gimmicky at first, it can really help light up what you are working on in cramped areas. I was using the impact on 7/16" bolts for the server cabinets we were working on, and it sheared a few of them clean off if you didn't let up fast enough.
My main thing here is to get the best bang for the buck I can get, get a decent industrial grade tool(s), and something that will last me for a good while. I was just going to get the Makita 18v drill, but spending $185 on that and a bit more torque instead of spending ~$20 more to get another tool, and a light seems to make more sense to me. I wasn't trying to start a which tool is better war, I was just looking for input from people who are more familiar with tools...
