Of course, that's why "mute point" irritates me to no end. It's as bad as "rediculous" and "definately," but with the bonus of changing the meaning.Originally posted by: nineball9

I find the now common pause "you know" irritating. This is especially true when said by news reporters; if a news reporter in the field says "you know", why is he or she reporting it as news? We already know it!
"You know" may be used as an interjection, but it seems to have replaced "um", "er", "eh" etc as a trite pause..
I particularly hate these catch phrases.
Here's a good example of a podcast I listened to recently where the guy uses "you know" an insane amount of times:
http://www.amateurscientist.or...st-studio-douglas.html
At times, he does it so quickly, it can be difficult to catch unless you're paying attention.
You know, that's a, you know, very good, you know, example
The phrase is "moot point". "Mute" is the inability to vocalize."Going forward" and "mute point" need to be in there somewhere.

With all due respect, I personally think some these items shouldn't of made this list. Absolutely there are some phrases that, while fairly unique, are extremely irritating. It's a nightmare to listen to them being uttered 24/7. There's probably someone saying at least one of these phrases at this exact moment in time! I mean, it's not rocket science, people! But I guess, at the end of the day, we all are guilty of saying stupid things found in the English language . It is what it is..
I agree, "reps" belongs on the list.Originally posted by: Arcadio

Oh and I hate it when people use the *OFFICIAL* tag on their thread title when the thread is not official... I don't think that is a phrase though... Oh and I dislike it when people on this forum always post fuck as fvck. I really don't understand what the hell they are thinking.
Fvck is better than *****, for any curse word, if ATOT remembers.

It is what it is.
And yes, anyone that uses "should of", "could of" or "would of" should be shot.
can you really tell the difference between someone saying would of and would've? unless they take a pause between would and of, then i just don't see if.

At the end of the day I personally feel that's it's fairly unique to utilize most of, if not all of, the phrases in question here. I personally use them all from time to time; such as in this moment in time.
With all due respect to all the naysayers here, I absolutely must say that it's a nightmare of epic proportions that you all are making such a big deal out of nothing.
It's not rocket science to see that commonly used phrases are a boon to the English language, and you shouldn't of bitched about it so much, OP.
Being that AT is a 24/7 forum, you can be sure that you'll continue to be flamed for failing not only basic English, but basic Internet and common-speak languages/skills as well.
Have a nice day.

And then they go on to insult you or someone else.
Anything that follows that line, is and will be, never pleasant.

Is 8 on the list because the wording is wrong? Or did they make a mistake there?
And what's wrong with 6 and 9? Both are useful.
