Not really a phrase, but it really bugs me when people say "also too" in a place where they should only use 'also', or even just 'too'. Redundancy FTL.

And yes, anyone that uses "should of", "could of" or "would of" should be shot.

I would of said this but then I'd get shot.

Would of just sounds better, IN MY OPINION.

You're thinking of "would've" which is fine. "Would of" = get shot.

The #1 phrase in the DV list of irritating phrases though has to be:

"It is what it is"

Well no shit. Why can't we CHANGE "what it is"?

"Dude your gf's a bitch, and you should dump her because she always bitches at you."
"Yeah well it is what it is"

Grow some fucking balls and CHANGE the fuckin situation. Do something proactive about it. I don't give a fuck what it is, I care about what it *could* be.

Agreed. What an absolutely vacuous statement with no useful meaning.

They're homophonic which is why there is typing confusion. Anyone who says "would of" means "would've," and a smart person really shouldn't be too upset about it.

"You know a nuclear bomb is about to be dropped on us?"

"It is what it is..."

Yeah, ok.. Because you can grow a pair to change every situation. Same can be said for religion in the world. If I just grow a pair I can make the whole world an agnostic/atheist place. NOT GOING TO HAPPEN THUS "IT IS WHAT IT IS."

Not really a phrase, but it annoys the hell out of me when people pronounce the word wolf as "woof"

'Nuff said'
'xxxxxx, literally'
'Let me be honest with you'
'To be honest'
'Let's circle back'
'Let's touch base'
'It is what it is'
Adding 'really?' after another question

The word "literally" used poorly makes my eyelids twitch.

"She was so mad! She literally exploded!"

...oh really. -_-

I would imagine that people who take umbrage with the use of the phrase "fairly unique" would in such contexts prefer the term "rare" or "uncommon." From a purely technical standpoint, "fairly unique" is contradictory.

Sometimes rare or uncommon doesn't really give off the same idea. :-/ If something is rare, it's rare... It's not like, "Well, one out of five hundred million people get this disease...." That's not rare.. that's like almost unique when you consider it a disease with people. (So there would be like 13 cases of it in the world... "Fairly unique")

Then you could say "nearly unique."
