The huge advatage the miata had over a s2000 for me is the miata had been around since 1989 so I could pick one up for peanuts and still have a lot of fun with it. $4k bought me a 94 loaded other then leather miata with a turbo and a hardtop. Kind of hard to beat that. Once you start getting up in the 2000+ miatas the gap in price is fairly close and the s2000 starts looking pretty good if you don't mind some miles on the s2000. Cheapest one near me ATM is an 01 for $12k with only 252k miles on it . Most start at around $14k with 100k miles. New the turbo GM verts look pretty damn good for the money.

I like! Does the hardtop increase or slightly decrease headroom? The bow for the soft-top just touches my head...if I sit up real straight. My buddy gave $2300 for his '93 and it was in his car that I checked fit.

Pliablemoose, it is good to hear about your youngster and you both having '97s. The dual air-bags would be most desirable for me too.

Well it gets rid of the bars so it increases headroom slightly. Maybe half an inch.

Yeah, I have sort of a love/hate thing with the hard top, will be letting mine go this winter, and using the cash from it to re do the interior on mine, new carpet & Katskinz should make a nice difference..

yeah sometimes you can get good deals on the older miatas. i'm a fan of the na chassis; but i have issues with its sensitivity to tires / tire pressure and shocks.

also without the prefered package (touring + chassis bracing + lsd) the handling is a B at best.

if anyone is looking for a nice clean miata for a reasonable price; i was looking into them and found a really nice clean one.

only downsides to that car:
could use a fresher set of shocks
no lsd

the car is in pretty amazing condition for its age. no, i am not the seller; but i went to check it out before deciding to get something else for the wife.
