Radeon,
I don't know how many times I had to explain to a customer, that their four year old Omni, which wasn't worth much more than a thousand dollars, would need to have nearly two thousand dollars worth of repairs to the transmission alone.
The earlier '78 through '81 seemed to be the worst of these. I would have to say that the dual sump design, of the earlier transmissions were the biggest contributing factor for these outrageous repair bills. I would try to refuse to fix these cars, because I felt it was a waste of the customers money and my time.
It seemed that good ones of these, were more the exception than the the rule.
Granted they did make improvements on them over the years, but I always felt it was to little, too late.

I actually think that they are probably a great deal of cars that many of us would like to see on this list, and everyone's opinion on it is different. I know that after I spent twenty years in the automotive repair industry, I tended to form my own prejudice's towards certain vehicles.

Why is the Vega up there, they had some of those with some cool engine options, yea they were not pretty cars but C'mon my brother had one that could smoke the tires real good.

Vega was the first car with an aluminum engine block. Nice concept, too bad it didn't work. That's why it's on the list. You had to be a mechanic to keep it running.

BTW, I can't say enough BAD things about the Saturn SL2 I used to own.

TonyH--The Citation had the 2.5L motor. Doese'nt the Cavalier have 1.8L and 2.0L engines in them? I thought that was a semi-new design when it came out. The Citations 2.5L goes back to the days of the Corvair, ie. "Iron Duke".

I will second that most Omni/Horizons live forever. That was a good motor in them. Though the auto trannys did suck. So to be correct Omni/Horizon with a manual lasted forever.

You'd be amazed to see how many Yugos are still driving around these parts...
To see what Yugos are capable of, check out this site: www.yugoracing.com. edit: click on 'Filmi' for Yugo racing movies

You might be thinking of the Monza with a V-8
Vegas only had 4 bangers.

Is the Vauxhall Nova the same as the Daewoo/Pontiac LeMans? Man that was a horrible car...

Why isn't the Hyundai Excel up there? It's the car that single handedly ruined Hyundai's reputation as an up and coming car maker.

There are so many bad cars...there shouldn't ever be a list limited to just 10...

Paul
-thinks about that POS Pontiac LeMans. Breathes in, breathes out, punches hand through wall

I'll put my two cents in for the Maverick...if only because every Maverick I ever saw just looked like a pile of crap, like it belonged in a destruction derby or something.

I'm so glad we're living in the days of the extended warranties - if any little thing goes wrong with my car, "Ford, fix it quick please."

I beg to differ, because wherever my '89 Sonata is right now, I bet it's still pissing somebody off.

Anything made in a former Communist country like the infamous East-German Trabbi! After you list all those, add the Pontiac Aztec.

Chevy Monza...my friend used to call it the Monza 2+2 because we took it off road all of the time. I had all 4 tires off the road at the same time several times. Oh...the good old days.

I don't understand them saying the Gremlin was slow. You could get them with a 401 or a 390. A buddy of mine had a 390, you had to put a person in the back to give it enough weight to hook up or you would just sit there smoking like you had a line lock. Let me tell you those things were scary at 120mph.

<<Vega was the first car with an aluminum engine block. Nice concept, too bad it didn't work>>

Actually, Buick had an aluminum V-8 in the 60's.

That list is old. It needs to be updated because some newer cars are much worse than some on that list.
What was wrong with the Vega? They were decent econoboxes, one of GM's first attempts.
The Cosworth Vegas are collector's items now.

A good case could be made for the Ford Focus or Contour. I'd be willing to bet no manufacturer has even half the recalls that Ford does. I've seen Contours with 7 recalls at one time, Focuses with 4.
