This is pretty cool to watch. Top-fuel team does a routine tear-down between rounds.

run the fuck out of it.What do they do to the engine between rebuilds?
They are pushing 8,000 hp through the engine over a very short period of time. It is worth their time and effort to break down the engine and replace the parts so they make it through the next run. They spend the first 30 seconds of the breakdown releasing or removing a lot of the safety equipment and harnesses that surround the engine in case there is a catastrophic failure.
run the fuck out of it.
It makes 8000hp and has no cooling system. It gets a tear down and rebuild after every run. Things are also checked to make sure no one is cheating.
different specs for different engine parts. How do you cheat?
different specs for different engine parts.
The sanctioning body (NHRA) mandates the specs on all parts used. If you use an out of spec part combined with a record run, they will demand a tear down inspection to make sure you are in compliance. Failing this inspection can result in unpleasant actions being taken against you.
Normal ignition timing is 58-65 degrees BTDC.
yes, sort of.IIRC, all top fuel and funny car engines are dodge big blocks from the 50's-60's.
edit:
holy shit!

$$$why not just have several pre built engines and replace them after each run
