Top Gear Australia is oot!

It has everything: The wall of cool, a top gear track, the stig, celebrity interview, studio with live audience, 3 blokes, fast cars, Jessica theme song, stupid ideas.

But that all doesn't mean anything because Clarkon, Hamster, and Captain Slow isn't in it. FAIL.

Top Gear USA probably will suffer similar fate. But i do find Adam Carolla quite amusing from the Love Line days, and do not giving him a handy if he offered me a million dollars.

Why would I wanna watch some rip off when I can watch the original BBC version through my source? Adama Carolla has a radio show locally, but I don't think anybody listens to it. I hate that guy.

Ripoff? You do know that it is an official spinoff and that the people doing the original Top Gear have a big hand in the show right? They're the ones that have picked the hosts and everything. Same with the US version.

I was as against the spinoffs as anyone originally, but I'm going to give them a shot. The producers of the UK show have been adamant that NBC can't screw with the format (so no shilling certain brands, the hosts are free to say whatever they want about the cars). Imagine an epic Top Gear olympics and competition between the three shows (like the one between the German ripoff and Top Gear on the one episode).

Of course that doesn't mean they won't end up sucking, but eh.

I saw some previews and it looked crap. Not funny at all. And it seemed to have about 1/10 the budget of the UK show.

i have low expectations for top gear usa. they tried it a few years ago, and the pilot episode was placed directly in the trash. i like top gear because of the cars, the writers, the stars, and the fact that it acknowledges the planet outside of US borders. kiss all of that goodbye. instead of zonda and koenigsegg, we'll have mustang and camaro for the 1000th time. probably a lot of nascar, too.

would anyone watch dr. who, monty python, or benny hill if they were remade for an american audience? F NO. but they will watch survivor, big brother, discovery channel, learning channel, pbs, et cetera.

They picked Carolla to be the host, that's instant epic fail. It's gonna be on network, which means it'll be 40 min instead of 60 min like the BBC version. It won't have the real Stig. And due to lame US regulations, the car selection on the show will be limited.

Australia isn't that bad (though, the main host is quite annoying). Give them some time. The biggest problem is that they are following in UK TG's footsteps a little too closely. They need to take the general idea and feel of UK TG and make it their own.

I would bet that in a season or two they find their stride and it will get a lot better.

it was horrifying.
they brought nothing new to it. they copied without rethinking. the hosts are not distinctive and bland. none have charisma, they have annoying voices and look like they belong to top gear series 1 from the 80s.
and its odd how they just jumped straight into the show without any acknowledgment.
it was a second rate copy

That's because it probably does. Top Gear UK is a BBC show isn't it? There's nothing in oz that matches the size of the BBC

I agree. So is Aus Ep2 out now? Saw 1...

Expectations for TG:US are very low. Heck figuring out the hedgehog references and various bits of English humor/inside jokes add to the enjoyment of Top Gear for me.

Those three make Top Gear. I find it damn near impossible to believe that we can make it work here with different hosts. What are we going to rip on? Korean cars? Half the fun of Top Gear is listening to Jeremy Clarkson talk about what rubbish our American cars are.

i just watched the first episode. it is as close to a clone as they could make it. same set, same video editing, same writing, everything. i think it's worse for it. the "what were they thinking" was a good idea, but the shark cage car was lame. i don't expect this to work in america.
