I didn't realize Sabine and Harris were going to be so minor in this. More of those two is the only thing that will save this show. LeBlanc was very bland and Evans just seemed forced and douchey. This is also sad because really Harris is all about the cars but he really isn't actually that entertaining and is not funny.

I've seen part (maybe the first twenty minutes), of the second episode. But I was NOT watching it very carefully.

Maybe it was just me, but I could not really get in to it significantly and was NOT particularly impressed with it.

tl;dr
I ended up changing channel, to find something more interesting. Which probably says it all, I guess.

The new presenters, just don't do it for me, to any real extent.

Actually it was NOT just me ...

Top Gear audience drops by a third on second episode

The audience for the latest episode of Top Gear dropped by more than a third, compared with last week's series debut.
An average of 2.8 million viewers tuned in to the second instalment of the new series on Sunday evening - 1.6 million fewer than the first episode.
Viewing peaked at 3.3 million just before the BBC Two show ended, overnight figures show.
Presenter Chris Evans said viewing figures would be higher when on-demand services were taken into account.
He tweeted: "The way Top Gear is being viewed is repositioning the way television is consumed. Last week 9 millions viewers. This week we shall see."
The first episode of this series was watched by an average of 4.4 million when it was first broadcast - 23% of the TV viewing share.
However, Evans appeared to suggest that the total figure was more than twice that when viewers watching the show on catch-up services such as iPlayer were included.
The overnight figures only account for viewers who watched the show as it was being broadcast, and do not include those watching on catch-up services.
The figures which will show the total number of viewers on all platforms are expected this week.

The 2nd episode was fine. Production quality remains top notch (who can argue?). Presenters can make it a better show (I can't stand Brits yet I liked the original trio) but I don't think these guys made "a car show" worse. I'm there for the content and I got at least 40 minutes this time.

2nd episode dropping just means people gave it 1 shot. People are loyal to what/who they like and that can easily reflect here. Look at Apple.

I really wanted to like the show, but the main host (Chris Evans) is annoying to me. The host for Extra Gear was 1000x better. Get rid of Chris Evans. Stick the two main guys from Extra Gear with Joey, and just roll from there.

This is true, and the only reason I watched it again last night. Their cinematography is still top-notch, and the locations they visit are always gorgeous. The hosts were still beyond annoying, especially with the stretcher bit.

One thing I have to know - did Jeremy Clarkson ever give up the driver's seat when testing any supercar on the test track? Chris Evans acted like he had never driven a supercar before, so he has Jenson Button take over driving duties while he rides shotgun screaming like a little girl. WTF is that shit? Why didn't they hire an auto enthusiast as the host of an auto enthusiast show?

Still not great, but as travel show it still holds up. At least next episode Chris Harris and Ken Block will be on.

Mild improvement. Will watch next episode to hear what they have to say about Tesla Model X. How is Chris Evans a radio host...his voice is horrible.

Just watched episode two, no change in opinion from episode one. Chris Evans is awful, LeBlanc could be replaced by a mannequin.

There's another show that's only on the web called Top Gear Extra Gear. From what I heard (I haven't seen it yet), that Extra Gear web show features the other hosts. I've also heard comments that it's better than the current Top Gear itself!

I saw the first two episodes of Extra Gear last night. I do like it better than regular Top Gear, but they dont seem to have the budget of the main show. Reid and Harris have better chemistry than Evans and LeBlanc. Kinda strange to think of Harris as the old man of the show. I know the purpose of the show is somewhat to be a bonus of the main show, but hopefully they'll let them do their own thing and not spend half the show talking about what happened on Top Gear.

you just can't replace the trio; not because they are special, but because they were the show.

early top gear, info show about cars - what to buy, how to save money. govt' sponsored.

then the trio take it over and turn it into a car-based comedy show. audience numbers explode.

did the BBC really think it was the show's name, that did it?

if they wanted to replicate the success of C/H/M, they needed to axe the top gear name, build a new show based on cars, and then give it over to the hosts hoping they make in into something as funny as top gear was.

You might not like him but hes been into cars for awhile.

TBH it wasn't as horrible as you guys made it out to be. Still looking forward to the Grand Tour though.

But it is dated "Published on 25 Nov 2014", so it has had a long time to pick up hits, and at the time (probably) had nothing to do with top gear.

lol, the video went up like 50K views since I made my post. Still, theres no guarantee it will get to over 3 million, especially after I file a copyright claim on Clarkson's video.

Interesting. So he's like the UK's version of Jay Leno. Would still be more respectable if he were the one slinging it around the track, and clearly the article is a direct response to his Top Gear critics.
Nice
(But as much as I have mad respect for Leno's car collection and the fact he drives them .... I wind up bored watching Leno's garage show)

Hammond was Top Gear's automotive fanboi , James May was the serious car guy (since most serious car guys are very boring)
Evans might be a decent fanboi, but we still need the opinionated, over the top host...somebody more like a Tim Allen (if there's a Rrrrrr Rrrrr in the Queen's English)

The thing is, that trio make very entertaining videos, even if it is just about Clarkson messing up putting together a cardboard box.

Whereas Chris Evans, maybe would be good at making radio shows and stuff (I don't know). But does not come across to me as being good at making car TV programs.

I give it one season/series before the BBC re-think the situation.

If only the BBC could change their minds and try and re-employ the original trio ?

Sadly, I CAN'T realistically see that happening.

The previous top gear program, was NOT just about cars. Somehow they managed to make a great "MAN CAVE" TV program, if you understand what I mean.

In retrospect, wasn't Clarkson already a tribute to Tim Allen?

Well I've just watched the third episode (live), and I've really liked it, it was great/good.

But the "funny" bits were still mostly NOT working. But overall, it was very enjoyable (for me).

Sorry if this contradicts my earlier posts in this thread. Maybe the presenters, have taken time to bed in.

But the original trio of presenters, would still be much, much better. Especially in the studio sections and with some of the "adventures".

But the overall program, has been able to supply great cars, with wonderful filming and locations, making a fine program.

In conclusion
It is a bit different to the original/previous top gear, and may well complement it. If the original one continues (on Amazon).
