I'm only aware of one lap time for the X5M, which is the top gear time. The M3 beat it by 2.9 secs. 3 seconds on that track is an eternity.
Where do you live that you don't see or know people who own multiple vehicles that serve different purposes? If you need to tow a trailer or make a run to home depot to pick some stuff up, or move some furniture, would you stand in your driveway trying to figure out which vehicle has the best 0-60 time and skidpad numbers to decide what you would use? Your point doesn't make any sense.
The X5M's performance is mediocre compared to the track performance you can get from something else in the $50k-60k range and closer to poor in the hauling capabilites compared to pickup trucks in the $30k range. When you consider those 2 combined cost the same as an X5M, the choice is rather obvious. Purpose built items will almost always be better for less than attempts at being a jack of all trades.
