Top Gear Season 21 thread

I just managed to download and watch the first episode of the new season before the Super Bowl (okay, I actually DVRed the Super Bowl and caught up with the first 15 minutes after watching TG).

So far so good, though I was disappointed to have no new-car test drive in the episode. The old hot hatch competition was pretty solid, though I thought there was just too much of it, and in some ways I thought it was too heavy on comedy and too light on plausibility (particularly Hammond's car). Next week is the McLaren P1, which should be amazing and will almost certainly be the new TG lap champion! I hope to see the 918 and GT3 tested this season as well. I expect the LaFerrari will not make an appearance this season, but one never knows . . .

I wasn't that stoked on it. The super bowl was boring and so was new top gear. Disappointing TV day for sure.

yeah I found the hot hatch comparo strayed a bit too far from realism to be enjoyable. although stealing the nova without the key was pretty awesome.

Agreed, It looks like this episode was just filler. the next episode seems to be the good one.

The first episode was meh. The highlight for me was the SITRPC segment. Give it a 5/10 rating I guess.

I'm glad I'm not the only one that wasn't really entertained by it. It looks like they've got some good stuff planned though so I won't give up on them.

LOL 6 entire episodes, and the 1st was a complete throw-away. i can't even remember a single thing in it. maybe they should do some auto journalism and spend less time pumping out this diarrhea:

I also thought the first ep was meh Don't get me wrong, love my TGUK (the only TG imho), but the hot hatch thing could have been done SO much better.

Instead of buying 3 obvious utter piles of crap, they could have borrowed three classic hot hatches of the highest legendary status, and then put them up against current stuff. Sometimes that stuff can surprise you (the 1998 Integra Type-R beat a new Civic Si in every performance metric recently in another classic v new comparo).

Even then it wouldn't have been the most exciting thing for US fans, as hot hatches aren't that big here (I struggle to care much myself), BUT, it would be infinitely better than watching three piles of crap be put through useless plock. The cop bit was particularly agonizing.

I didnt know anyone with those in the 80s, I did know lots of people with Golf GTI's, XR2's and ... I dont think I knew anyone with an SRI.

You have to remember that this show is written for Brits.
