I want you to write a letter to Mr. Hefner pitching your idea of producing a magazine or a television show featuring McD eating, super-sizing women.

They hate a lot of cars. They like corvettes.

never test cars for what they are made for...and are completely unknowledeable.

Duh, you're not supposed to take them seriously.

Their GT500 review blasted it for having a solid rear axle, which is what the gt500 owners want.

Why would you want that?

what? dissing top gear here? you must die!
Top Gear is about 3 guys expressing their love and hate for cars, its not really a car show.

But one annoying trend I've noticed over the last few seasons is that it feels increasingly forced/scripted. And I'm not just talking about the in-studio or actual car review segments (which have to be fairly-well scripted to a certain extent.) I'm talking about the out-of-studio segments where they're off doing a challenge, etc. These are the light-hearted segments which are at the core of what make the show fun and unique. But it feels like they're trying TOO hard to be funny in these segments of late and, for me anyway, it takes a bit out of it sometimes.

I noticed the same thing too.

it's just a show. not everyone is an engineer... if you want honest car reviews, go watch fifth gear where they praise pretty much everything.

I hear you.

1. Not the point of the show

2. The show is about the the interaction of the hosts moderated by their perceptions on cars. Now, they seem to do a bit of more "plugging." Humor is what made the show successful; they added more humor.

3. They take out the science in the show BECAUSE the average person does not care about the procedure the "experiment" used. They care about what happened. I would venture to say the experiments are there for ENTERTAINMENT and are not seriously undertaken as a person would with something that mattered.

4. I am not fresh on the current usage of fancy words in the show, please throw me some prime examples where they clearly misuse a word.

5. See three

6. Part of the ENTERTAINMENT. Also, it allows the show(speculation here) to possibly use the best fit driver for each car to bring out the best in each individual car. BTW, what is wrong with convenience? However, from all the indications of celebrities and the hosts themselves, we are lead to believe it is only one man. Please, clarify what else you are trying to get at here.

7. Did I mention, besides entertainment they do current events too! So what! They have opinions too, just as you and I do by writing what we have written.

I guess anything you say after point 7 is your form of sarcasm. I think many people, ones that commented in this thread, would agree that your tone would imply little or no sarcasm.

And also, ask for everyone else's opinion instead of asking if you are right. not if you are right or not. Opinions are not right or wrong, unless... you ask a doctor.

there's a reason why americans want to buy japanese/european cars and japanese/europeans don't want to buy american cars...

as for the GT500, they are really spot on. sure it has loads of power, but it should have been properly engineered like the roush mustang. you can see the GT500 lean and wobble throughout the entire track... imagine what would happen when people try to drive fast on uneven public roads...

That's not really true. They frequently review American cars and give them quite positive reviews. Richard liked both the C6 and Mustang (as did Clarkson, if you read his articles). Clarkson absolutely adores the Focus and Mondeo.

They do rag on DaimlerChysler cars, but I rarely find positive reviews of Dodge or Chysler anywhere.

Their GT500 review blasted it for having a solid rear axle, which is what the gt500 owners want.

They also blasted it for only dynoing at ~460hp and claiming it was well short of 500. Well duh, Ford never hid it was 500hp at the flywheel and not at the rear wheels.

Why do they want that? (Serious question, not flaming)

Because first...when a mustang owner says they are taking their car to the track, 9 times out of 10 it is the drag strip, and when you launch a car on a drag strip you want a solid rear axle because it is lighter, has less things to break, does not require an IRS brace, and does not induce massive amounts of wheel hop which can break the diff. Most owners would just swap the IRS out for a SRA anyway like they did with the last generation Cobra.
