No, you completely miss the point of Top Gear!

Hell, I hate cars and I love Top Gear.

Agreed.

Also you have the option to not watch it and seeing as you don't pay an effing penny for it I also suggest that no one cares what you think.

GOOD NIGHT KIND SIR!

2- Is this a show about cars or is it a sitcom? I am sick of having to listen to the three stooges exchanging jokes and insults, nothing is wrong with humor on the show however they just waste so much time doing that.

3- Is this a car show or Myth Busters without the scientific bit?

4- As a person employed in the engineering field, I am disturbed by the use of fancy words from Clarkson, Hamond and May, meanwhile non of them know crap about engineering and it's so obvious I have no idea why I am mentioning it!

5- The experiments on the show (HUGE EXAMPLE!) are such lame pointless waste of public resources I am surprised they aren't of the air by now, watch the video and judge for yourself how stupid these pretentious journalists are, they based the rocket / shuttle on a 30 year old car? I am sure the engineers who helped setup the experiment where banging their heads as they went on with this stupid project. If you are going to spend enough resources on a costly project like that, it wouldn't hurt if you can be a little serious about it, no?

6- They portray the Stig as a driving master mind (some say that he's usually some ex-F1 racing driver), so we have a driver that seems to be more qualified then the rest of these three stooges yet we can't get input from him because well his / their identity is kept secret, well that's just convenient isn't it?

7- The show is filled with more political views than reviews of cars that people might be intereseted in buying WTF? This is a car show not politics talk show, enough with the politics crap, get to the cars asswipes!

Top Gear is a stupid show and you would be so wrong if you disagree with me, either that or you have watched so much of it that your IQ dropped too low to agree with me.

So am I right or what?

1. regular cars = boring as ****** to watch, you want that, download 5th gear instead they do all that.

2. what ever... having 3 guys joking about is better than having some monotonous gimp present the latest Volvo complete with that nasally sound to his voice

3. they realise that the viewer base would be much wider if they didnt focus completely on cars, however JC has said that the next series will tone down the stunts. they did the big money stunts as a way of exploring which direction to take the show to stop it stagnating. also they actually had enough stuff for 9 shows, however due to hammonds crash, they had to shorten the series to 6, and it made more sense to show the big money stunts than the car reviews.

4. they may not having much nouse at engineering, none of them claim to have either, but in the UK at least, they are doing a great service to engineering by promoting it. JC has 2 honorary degrees in engineering for his services to engineering....without him i dont think there'd be too many people interested in it. all 3 have a genuine interest in engineering so its only fair that they get to use the big words too.

5. because 1) they can 2) its fun and interesting 3) they can

6. the stig....... is actually not one person. thats why they cant reveal the indentity, though its believed the usual player of the stig is ben collins who is an extremely talented individual. plus it is a mick take on the F1 driver persona

7. in the UK, politics, PC, H&S is so rife that its especially refreshing to see clarkson in particular giving it a big two fingered salute. him beating on tony blair, greenies, health an safety bollocks is entertaining

and now for my last point.

i am assuming you are american right? that gives you about zero right to complain. its a british show, produced by british people and paid for with the BBC's own money, most of which comes from the TV licence which is paid by the british public.

now if the british public happen to like watching TG and what ever it features that week, and viewing figures suggest that tehy do like it very much, then thats all that matters.

it wouldnt matter if the whole US of A didnt like TG, because quite simply....its not intended for america. its intended for the british audience in the UK.

the rest of the world can just suck it up, if the us brits like watching only super cars and 3 blokes calling each other names and using british humour then thats what it'll be, nuts to the rest of you.

i cant believe people have the nerve to download a show they dont even pay for, for free, then feel the need to complain about it because it doesnt feature what they see as important. if you dont like it dont watch it.

and again.... it sounds to me like you will be better off watching 5th gear. they deal with all the mundane-mobiles, crash tests and stuff like that. go bit torrent that instead. and since thats paid for with advertising money i couldnt care less if you download and then complain about that.

That's very subjective - some people would ask why they would waste a lot of times on the more basic cars. I'm personally watching it for enjoyment and I honestly won't enjoy watching a Focus or Accord run around a track.

yeah put simply to a petrol head....watching an enzo blat around the track is a million times more fun that watching a Focus TDi Ghia do the same.

if i wanna see a VW golf.... ill go to the flipping show room and get a test drive. i cant do that with a lamborghini.

Exactly. More importantly, American car shows aren't as good.

Man it's amazing how childish people can get just over an opinion I post of something that is nothing more than a TV show.
Since when was it a crime on Anandtech Off Topic for someone to have a point of view that doesn't agree with what seems to be the mainstream, eh? I thought OT was supposed to be a "a Pub if, you will" where people voice their personal opinions and then they get to discuss why or why not they are right, and hear new points of view and so on. Instead I start hearing calls for ban and lock this thread?

If you don't like my opinion and in addition you want me banned or my thread locked, then why don't you go to a fsckn communist state where everyone tends to have the same opinion on everything? I hear North Korea is accepting new applications, hurry up!

This thread is pretty much flame bait on here and you know it.

No, don't and stop making things up here, this is not a flame bait, I read a thread about Top Gear yesterday, I remembered how much that show needs to be improved in order not to suck, I came here on OT, voiced my opinion, then I backed it up with what I believe is sufficient reason for why my opinion is like that. I didn't expect to see a cult following of Top Gear TBH, and my criticism had more of a sarcastic tone than it was dead serious yet people wanted to take make things more serious than they were, whatever.

It's a good show for the entertainment value. It's nice to see the cars and what they can do. The problem I have is that many people on here take their opinion as fact and pretend to be car experts by repeating what was said on the show.

For the love of God, someone was able to summarize why I exactly have a problem with Top Gear in one small paragraph.

That's exactly what I have been saying, non of them are qualified enough to give out rulings on if a car is a failure or not, most of the time they give out judgment based on engineering principles while non of them is an engineer, they are only journalists nothing more nothing less though people tend to think that they are in fact some kind of authority when it comes to that, because they do have the capability of throwing fancy words towards the camera.

It's a show for entertainment not rigorous car reviews and testing, it's just all fun and games!

Did someone just point a gun to your head and force you to watch a few seasons of TV shows that you hate?!

Its funny because you sat through all the episodes and you hate the show...can we say...MORON?

How is that relevant whether if he's an engineer or not.
He says he works "in the engineering field" and can't stand people that try to sound like they know what they're talking about. I don't even know if that's true; he's definitely got a case of hate going on.

I thoroughly love the show.

But one annoying trend I've noticed over the last few seasons is that it feels increasingly forced/scripted. And I'm not just talking about the in-studio or actual car review segments (which have to be fairly-well scripted to a certain extent.) I'm talking about the out-of-studio segments where they're off doing a challenge, etc. These are the light-hearted segments which are at the core of what make the show fun and unique. But it feels like they're trying TOO hard to be funny in these segments of late and, for me anyway, it takes a bit out of it sometimes.

Obviously inspired by my thread. You are right on a lot of things, but keep in the mind it is a TV show.. meaning mindless entertainment. I'll admit they are pretty ridiculous and foolish a lot of times but personally I find it very funny.

As far as your problems with the show, I agree with number 6, it would be nice to get a professional opinion on these high end cars.

Your life must suck. The show is for entertainment...not your next car purchase or a uni level class. If you don't enjoy the entertainment...tune it off. Stop trying to impose your boring life on others.
