Interesting how things change. My grandpa from Arkansas called black people the n-word. He never used the term colored or Negro when at home. He did call them colored in public - they did move to the San Francisco Bay Area after all and that calling him what he was used to didn't fly there. He wasn't trying to be offensive - its the term everyone of his generation from that part of the world used. This was back in the late 60s and 70s and he was really old by then. Can't even imagine it now.

so? he still said it. he even admits to saying it. so the fact IT was not sopposed to be public makes it ok?

Clarkson said that in filming the section a couple of years ago, he was very keen to avoid using the offensive term in a version of the nursery rhyme and mumbled it on two takes before replacing it with the word "teacher" on a third.
"When I viewed this footage several weeks later, I realized that in one of the versions, if I listened very carefully with the sound turned right up, that I had actually used the word I was trying to obscure," he said.
"I was mortified by this, horrified. It's a word I loathe, and I did everything in my power to make sure that that version did not appear in the program."
Yeah, this isn't even worth responding too.

Stop being an idiot.

I watched this video 3 times and I didn't make out anything in particular other than him annoying repeating "Eenie Meenie Minnie Mo" over and over.

What was I supposed to hear him saying?

Aren't you black? Your lack of indignance makes you a discredit to your race. You should be frothing mad.

You're just trying to make us say it. I'm not falling for that one.

The Daily Mirror is one of the rags that Piers "Something of a wise and beautiful woman" Morgan used to write for. So yeah, I'm calling horseshit.

And Clarkson just freight trained Piers in an article. Pathetic. He makes fun of everybody, who cares. Guys funny.

I was puzzled at first, but apparently a traditional version of this rhyme in Britain is
Eenie meenie minee mo,
Catch a N***** by the toe

Had no idea.
Got me, I learned it with the N version myself as a child in the 60's.

Seems a bit overboard, still, as many said he was just slurring things at that point.

*edit* upon listening to it sounds altered or just gibberish to me.

He intentionally mumbled over the word, but apparently not satisfactorily enough, so he re-shot it with an even MUMBLIER version, therefore RACISM.

What he should do now is call the press, let them assemble together, then say a single vulgar racially-insensitive N-word into the microphones before turning around and leaving.

Then there's no question that he "said it" and the reaction becomes "so what?" People can say "OMG! He said it!" all they want but few will call it racist in that context and it will point out how stupid it is to call it racist in the context of an intentionally mumbled poem he rejected.

Tiger or monkey are the two traditional verses in the US to my memory.

As others have mentioned, tiger is not the traditional word, the "N" word is. It was used exclusively in that rhyme back in the 1950's when I grew up.

Tiger is the "PC" word that supplanted the "N" word.

Now that I think about this a bit more, Jeremy Clarkson would be banned on this forum many times over. He love to use the word savage, or savages... :hmm: :awe:

Yeah, but he usually is talking about Corvette owners when he says it.

Society has gone off the rails.

The same thing happened in the fifties. There was a resulting sixties blacklash against so called 'conservatives.' Now progressives are trying to suppress the same freedoms under a different guise, pretty much the same thing. Get ready for a second backlash if you love pendulum politics. Pretty much sucks for those of us self-sufficient and stuck in the middle.

Yeah isn't it a bit much? That racist rancher in NV. People dismissed him not paying grazing fee's for 20 years and having an armed militia ready to have a shoot out with the feds. But he says something racist and now everybody wants blood.

I wished the feds shot him long before the racist shit he said recently.
