This will likely make decent money just for the air scene porn.

Yes indeed. You can never have too many F 15C Eagles, flying 6 ft off the Utah Salt Flats, shown from a belly camera, or showing off high altitude air superiority tactics. I can watch them all day. Throw in some F16C Fighting Falcons, a 22A Raptor or two, and a F35A Lightening and you will have my attention for the duration especially as my walls thunder from the sounds of those jets. It makes me feel things.
Nakedness bodies ?
Get in line.

That's great but being a Navy movie I'm guessing zero of those planes will be shown.

The Navy flies the F-35 and the F-15 bears a passing resemblance to a whole bunch of Russian fighters also used by Russian allies, so I'm guessing we see them used in some scenes.

Doesn't the Navy run Super Hornets too?

I also doubt this is limited to just the Navy. The first movie helped fuel recruitment/sign-ups, so I'm betting the Air Force would be more than happy to show off some too. Have a hunch we'll get a good amount of hype for Ospreys (maybe just in passing) and the F-35 since they kinda need to rehab the image of both (especially since its optional VTOL capability is a big part of why the F-35 has been such a boondoggle).

Wonder what the main story will be. Although it'd probably make for an easy script, I can't imagine the military would be keen on doing a human vs machine (drone) story since they're quite keen on drones. And War Games didn't exactly make their non-computerized military systems seem great either!

Which maybe that'd be a good story, competition between the Navy pilots and the Air Force.

I'm assuming they have some deal with the US military like they did the first movie. It'd be pretty interesting to see what sort of deal though (I believe for the first one the military simply didn't charge them for the flight costs in exchange for basically just mostly positive image of military; I'd be curious if they made them pony up for the costs this time or maybe the opposite and the military actually paid them some to make the movie).

Sounds like me with Star Wars and Star Trek. But dude, watch the first one.

She's a lesbian IRL. Interesting huh? Oh yeah you never saw it.
She's been in many other things. I know the cast but no interest in it.

The Navy version of the F-35 is the F-35C, you specified F-35A. As for the F-15 that was true in the first movie as well but they used F-5s and called them a new MIG. There will be no USAF variants in this movie is my bet.

It's a pretty fun show if you like airplanes & manly stuff & great soundtracks. It's like anything else - if you read too much into it, it can ruin it for you. For example, a lot of people hate on Bill & Ted, but it's still one of my favorite movies...I just accept that movies are going to be a little bit silly & enjoy the ride rather than criticizing them too much. I mean, it's just a movie! It's supposed to be entertaining is all.

I can't wait for this. One of my favourite movies. The thing about maverick is he might not be the greatest pilot...but he thinks outside the box hence why he is captain.

I didn't specify anything. And unless they plan to do the entire film in CGI there's going to have to be some real air-to-air shots which will require a modern fighter to play the part of the enemy. They're not going to be able borrow Russian jets, so there will be some US planes mocked up to look foreign. They're probably not going to keep using F-5s 30 years later, my bet is that they will use some variants of current USAF planes leased from the government or one of our allies.

He's a captain because he's a maverick who refuses to play by the rules and can't get promoted higher. You must have missed that the 1,371 times it was mentioned in the first movie and the trailer for the new one.

The 80s truly was the greatest decade. I want to know how they filmed those cockpit scenes.

My wife who occasionally backseats in a T38 supersonic trainer (which I think the F5 used in the first movie @local mentioned below is based on) was not impressed. His harness was so loose in the cockpit shots he would damage himself if he ejected.

-Who dislikes the Bill and Ted movies? Honestly, I can imagine not being inclined to watch them, but once watched, they are inevitably loved.

Anyhow, the first top gun is a better movie with the nostalgia goggles on that I think I've only seen once from beginning to end (otherwise in 30 minute snippets over multiple days on TNT reruns).

Unfortunately (or fortunately), dogfighting and aerial combat really hasn't been much of a thing for ages, so I wonder what contrived reason they're going to come up with to "go hot" with some half way competent enemy.

I think the US owns some Russian jets, and we have allies that fly Russian stuff that probably would love to be in some Hollywood movie. I doubt it'd be that difficult to source if they really wanted to. But they could also easily CGI the stuff (have you seen how they do car commercials now? They almost never have the actual car, its basically a tube framed car with cameras rigged up and then they CGI the actual car into it later).

It’s funny what people catch when they know what to look for. I always catch things like medals, unit patches and equipment.

Did you notice that the Japanese and Taiwanese patches are gone from his jacket? I
Sure enough, it's co-produced by a Chinese company.

Looks like Tom trades up his Kawasaki GPZ900R for a supercharged Kawasaki H2 at some point.

Edit: Looked it up and it seems there were reports from last year where they specifically said it was a track-only H2R. Nope. H2R doesn't have mirrors.

Well, there was that beach volleyball scene...

During my Officer boot camp in the AF, two dorks (literally looked like Laurel & Hardy--one fat & one skinny/tall) were playing volleyball and did the backslap high five from the movie--the fat guy's belly wobbled from the high five. I facepalm cringed at the surreal scene that I witnessed. .......The fat guy, btw, had to do an extra boot camp type "fat farm" regimen b/c he was so fat.

....I just wonder how many morons did this type of stuff after watching this airhead movie.

Yes. America has spoken, and what they want is to see the same old shit over and over and over again.
i realized after seeing that trailer again that maybe they were just including those couple scenes from the first movie, and they weren't actually part of the second? I couldn't tell. Whatevs, I just wanna see shirtless sweaty males. I mean airplanes! Airplanes rock.

Yeah I read about this on the morning commute. Gotta appease the Chinese market apparently since they’re partially investing in the movie.
