Hi, I'm planning on building a gaming PC, whenever i acquire adequate funds ($1000), that will be capable of running any game on maxed setting. This is what I have put together based on my budget.

CPU: Intel Core i5-3470 3.2GHz Quad-Core Processor or i5 3570k 3.4GHz

Motherboard: ASRock Z77 Pro3 ATX LGA1155 Motherboard

Memory: Samsung 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory

Storage: Seagate Barracuda 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive

Video Card: MSI GeForce GTX 670 2GB Video Card or GTX 670 Power Edition

Case: Cooler Master Storm Enforcer ATX Mid Tower Case

Power Supply: XFX 550W 80 PLUS Bronze Certified ATX12V / EPS12V Power Supply

Optical Drive: Lite-On iHAS124-04 DVD/CD Writer

Operating System: Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 (OEM) (64-bit)

What are your thoughts and advice?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers

There's a sticky at the top of this subforum about "Midrange system builds" (or to that effect) by mfenn. It contains a $1000 build without an OS. If you drop from the ~$360 7970 mfenn generally recommends to a 7950 (there's a Sapphire one on Newegg for $280 AR), you'll have enough room for Windows 7 Home Premium.
12/30/2012 update:
i5 3570K + ASRock Z77 Pro3 combo $297
G.Skill DDR3 1600 8GB $38
Sapphire 7970 $360 AR
Samsung 830 128GB $110
Seagate 1TB $70 AP
Lite-ON DVD Burner $18
Corsair TX650 $60 AR AP
Corsair 200R $50 AR
Total: $1003 AR AP

- The trick to using the Newegg gift cards is to place one order for the items with gift cards, wait until they email you the code (usually after the charge your CC), then place another order using the gift card codes.
- If you want to spend a little extra on the PSU, the Seasonic X650 Gold is $90.
- There is a dual-fan GTX 660 available for $195 AR and a dual-fan 7950 3GB available for $280 AR if you want to spend less but still get very good gaming performance
- If you intend to OC (the system is capable) grab an aftermarket HSF like the budget Hyper 212+ for $20 AR or the mid-range Xigmatek Dark Knight II for $52.

The 7950 is superior to the 660ti in raw performance because it doesn't have a crippled memory bus.

the 7870 is superior in raw performance, why do you think the 660ti prices have gone down so much?
